A quick guide on how to install custom Gorilla Tag maps for PC and Quest

Foreword

This guide is for how to install the Monke Map Loader and custom maps for PC. The mod is also avalible for Oculus Quest/Oculus Quest 2 – if you want to install the quest version, check out gorillatagmodding.burrito.software – https://gorillatagmodding.burrito.software/#/quest-maploading.

Installing Mods

If you haven’t already modded your game, it’s an extremely simple process.

You’ll need to install the latest release of the github.com – https://github.com/DeadlyKitten/MonkeModManager/releases/latest, then simply run it, select the Monke Map Loader mod, and hit install!

Adding new custom maps

By default, the Monke Map Loader comes with one map. However, there’s 25+ more available at monkemaphub.com – https://monkemaphub.com/

Once you’ve downloaded some fancy new maps from MonkeMapHub, you can install them by doing the following:

  • Open up MonkeModManager again
  • Once MonkeModManager is open, click the Utilities tab and then click Game Folder to be brought to your game’s folder
  • In your game’s folder, navigate to BepInEx/mods/MonkeMapLoader/CustomMaps.
  • Drag and drop your new custom maps into this CustomMaps folder.

You’re all done installing maps! Now go play and have some fun. Remember to select a custom map on the in-game PC before hopping into the teleporter.

FAQ

Can I use custom maps in public matches?

Although you’re not supposed to join public matches with mods, the Monke Map Loader implements a special solution to give a public-like experience.
When you select a custom map and go through the teleporter, it’ll put you in a modded lobby. As long as you’re not in a private match, this modded lobby will automatically match you with others playing the same map.
Just like a public match, but without ruining the experience for unmodded players!

How do I make my own custom maps?

You can find the Unity project and a detailed guide on how to use it here: discord.gg – https://github.com/legoandmars/GorillaTagMapProject for great mapmaking resources!
