Introduction

Welcome to our amazing Final Fantasy IV guide!

Only first/easiest appearance of Monsters will be listed in the guide; repeats might be mentioned but only for rare encounters.

The following achievements are missable:

  • Legendary Treasure Hunter: due to all chests in Tower of Zet, Tower of Babel and the Giant of Babel.
  • Field Research- Professional: due to most bestiary entries in Tower of Zet, Tower of Babel and the Giant of Babel (plus some extra entries related to bosses: General, Captain, Calcobrena , Barnabas-Z ).
  • Summon Master: due to the Sylph summon

And the following locations are time-limited or one-visit only:

  • Tower of Zot
  • Tower of Babel
  • The Giant of Babel

… but all that is covered in the walkthrough!

Information:

  • Hold Backspace to run.
  • Press Q to auto-play during battles.
  • Press Q to open the map and TAB to switch between locations. Chest progress can be also checked here.
  • Bestiary progress can be only checked from main menu: Extras → Bestiary.

There’s two type of collectibles in this game:

  • Chests (342 in total): referenced with []
  • Hidden Items (54 in total): referenced with {}

There’s one achievement for reaching level 70 with all your party members, but this only contemplates end-game characters so it’s not really missable. It also should come through natural progression while completing everything else.

The achievement for visiting all locations is NOT missable.

Feel free to comment any typos/issues and we’ll fix them ASAP.

WARNING: There’s two ways to end this battle. One is by killing all three Baron Soldiers to make the General escape, and the other is by killing the General first and earning way more EXP. I’m not sure if General is a missable entry in this version as if he escapes, he will still show up in the bestiary but with 0 kills, same way as in the FFIV 3D Remake, but in that version bestiary entries didn’t count unless you had at least one kill. So our recommendation is taking the: General → Baron Soldier route to prevent later headaches.

Mom Bomb is basically a regular Bomb with lots of extra health. It doesn’t do anything special or deal impressive amounts of damage, so summoning Chocobo with Rydia while attacking with the rest of the party should be more than enough to take it down. The boss will increase its size about halfway the battle and then explode within the next few turns. Feel free to heal up and defend during that phase if you desire, but It’s still not a big deal if you don’t.

Soon after the boss explodes, you will find yourself battling against 3 regular Bombs and 3 Gray Bombs. These shouldn’t suppose any challenge at this point of the game. Just spam any multi-target attacks and they’ll gone rather quickly.

After the battle, the monk will introduce himself and shortly after… he will join the party!

Once back at 5F, head up the middle stairs and use ‘Dr. Lugae’s Key’ on the door.

Go through it.

Approach the wizards for an easy battle against three Goblin Captains.

After the battle, watch the scenes….

Your new objective is to exit the dungeon, so make your way out by walking. You can’t use Emergency Exit for this occasion, sadly.

A scene will take place on 1F, just before the exit…

Rubicante is weak to Ice-based spells when the cape is open, so spam the *** out of Shiva during that phase for some massive damage. Don’t use elemental spells when the cape is closed or you will heal him.

He will also counter-attack all physical damage with Fira, so try to rely on magic and summons (such as Bio and Shiva like we mentioned earlier) and attack whenever you feel safe (though I don’t recommend attacking as he will counter-attack every single time). By the way, be extremely careful with “Inferno” as it deals insane damage; have Rosa dedicated to healing and reviving.

TL:DR: spam Shiva with Rydia and don’t use physical attacks at all. Rydia will carry you through this battle!

Start the battle by casting Reflect on Asura to ensure that all her buffs end in your party members.

Now, attack with everyone while Rydia summons Titan, but be careful, Asura will counter-attack all damage with fairly powerful attacks. I recommend throwing Curaja on your party every turn.

Attack with Cecil, cast Bio with Rydia, Jump with Kain, Curaja the party every turn with Rosa, and cast Blitz with Edge, then set the auto-fight while you watch the show. The battle should be over within 5 minutes if your party is leveled enough (mine was around 40).

Ok, the first thing you want to do here is cast Reflect on all your party members using both white mages. Then the second thing is spamming Leviathan with Rydia and attacking with Cecil and Edge.

Once Bahamut’s count reaches 0, he will cast Mega Flare and deal 9999 damage to everyone without Reflect, so make sure all your party have it to prevent casualties. Mega Flare will be also reflected to himself, dealing 9999 free damage.

Mech Dragon only spawns on the room just before the boss fight: Stairwell of the Giant.

Something you really want to do before completing the dungeon is to stock up on Sirens which can be stolen from the Searcher enemy. Why is that? because that item can summon an encounter against the rarest enemy of your current location, which will be extremely useful when we start farming secret summons and the elusive Pink tail.

Best Method: get into the battle with a Searcher, then kill everything else except for one weak enemy such as the Centaurion. Once done, heal up the party if they’re not full life and then Defend with everyone but Edge and Rosa, then Pray with Rosa and Steal the **** out from the Searcher with Edge. Press Q to auto-battle/speed up the game and wait until you steal several Sirens. Repeat as many times as you want. You can pretty much go do something else while the auto-battle steals the Sirens for you!

Try to stack 99 before completing the dungeon; trust me,you will thank me later.

Flan Princess likes to attack with an annoying ability called ‘Dancing’, which insta-berserks most if not all your party party members. They don’t do much besides that, though, so it’s all matter of time and patience until your inevitable victory.

But what’s the objective of fighting such an infuriating enemy? simple. There’s a 1/64 chance of getting a Pink Tail as a drop after the battle, and we need at least one for the Tail of Myth achievement. You can leave this grind for after completing the game, and that’s what I recommended. You could spend here way too many hours that it could end breaking the plot immersion, and we’re almost done with the story.

For reference, I spent 99 Sirens and still wasn’t able to get a Pink Tail, so don’t overwrite your quick-save when farming to have multiple attempts if the first doesn’t go as planned.

Either way, the choice to farm it now or later is all yours.

After collecting or not collecting a Pink Tail, exit the room and take the stairs leading down.

This nasty creature opens up with an unavoidable Mega Flare attack that deals insane amounts of damage to your party, then it will cast Reflect on itself. So, the first thing you want to do is heal up the party.

Be aware that summoning Bahamut can be extremely dangerous due to the boss counter-attacking that with another Mega Flare. However, we can take advantage of this.

Once your party is fully healed, have Rosa cast Reflect on all members while they attack, then once all are protected with Reflect, spam Bahamut with Rydia to deal 9999 damage of the summon plus 9999 more of the countered Mega Flare from the boss.

If you did this correctly, the battle should be over within 10 minutes.

You will be rewarded with the Ragnarok, the best sword in the game! (2/4 sealed equipment)

Now make your way back to the chest with Cottage past the hidden bridge.

If you load your completed save, you will start outside the Crystal Palace, so make your way back to the Lunar Whale and head to the Blue Planet.

  1. Dear Pris Lylat,

Thanks a bunch for this list! I have used it and like it a lot.
There is only 1 small error I noticed.

This is that chest #290 is actually an Ether and not an Elixir.

    Thanks for the good work!

    Kind regards,

    Micha-el van Luijtelaar
