Summary

All the units in your starting party have low base speed and this becomes apparent in the early game on higher difficulty modes. So, here is my guide to fixing your base stats in the first 5 mins.

In case you wanted to know how important this is, here is a random Virgil from the internet. At Lv.18 he has 105 speed. For comparison, a Lv.1 Scoundrel has 106 speed.

Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark - Fixing your base speed in the less than 5 mins guide - Summary - 16C7E25

Steps

  1. In the first battle deploy Virgil as a Mercenary and get Anadine to Lv.2 (Do not level up Kyrie or Virgil).
  2. Win 330 to 930 gold and sell unused items to reach 5350 gold.
  3. Recruit a Scoundrel at Lv.1 for 500 and buy him a Maul and a Garb.
  4. Reset Kyrie, Reiner, Anadine, and Virgil to a Lv.1 Scoundrel.
  5. Change everyone to Mercenary, finish Crossroads battle, and finally reset Lana.

Strategy

  • Resetting to Lv.1 Scoundrel to get the best base speed
  • Making everyone a Mercenary to maximize vicarious learning

Result

  • In 5 mins – Fix base stats for 4 out of 5 of your units
  • In 20 mins – Get Health Expert or Counterattack on 4 units and fix everyone’s base stats

Step 1 – Intro Battle

Goal – Get Anadine to Lv.2

I recommend the Very Hard difficulty for two reasons:

  1. Both enemies are Lv.2 and give 12-13 exp per hit to Anadine
  2. You get 930 to 1010 gold for winning and will allow you to recruit a Lv.2 unit instead of a Lv.1

On any other difficulty, the enemies will be Lv.1 and give 10 exp making it longer, and you only get 330 to 360 gold for winning.

—Turn 1—

  • Open the Troops Menu and change Virgil’s class to Mercenary and deploy him. Choosing Virgil because he has the lowest speed (94 vs Lana’s 97)
  • Kyrie – Use Forceful Strike on Alphonse to hit both units
  • Enemy Merc – Attacks Kyrie (He will take his turn before Anadine only on Very Hard difficulty because of higher base stats)
  • Anadine – Attack enemy Merc
  • Virgil – Just wait and do not gain any exp. Run away if you want

—Turn 2—

  • Kyrie – Attack enemy Merc
  • Anadine – Kill Merc for 28-29 exp

If you are playing on a lower difficulty, of if Kyrie kills the Merc, then keep Alphonse alive till Anadine can reach Lv.2

—Turn 3—

Kyrie – Wait and do not gain exp. (Kyrie must not level up. If she gets to Lv.3 then we have to pay 2000 gold to reset the level)

Anadine – Attack Alphonse and then check your exp

  • If your exp is 88, then attack him the next turn to win
  • If your exp is less than 88, then drink a potion for 10 exp and finish on the turn after that

—Reward—

The most common reward is the Maul and it’s the best one. Sometimes you’ll get a Shortsword, and sometimes an Axe; both are worse but you do not need to reset.

Step 2 – Shopping

Now we have Kyrie, Reiner, Anadine, and Virgil at Lv.2 and have about 3900 gold.

—Sell the following—

Circlet – 75 x1 = 75

Linen Robe – 300 x4 = 1200

Wood Staff – 75 x2 = 150

Rod – 87 x2 = 176

Axe – 150 x1 = 150 (If you got an Axe as the reward, then sell both)

Dagger – 75×1 = 75

Shortsword – 125 x1 = 125 (If you got a Shortsword as the reward, then sell both)

Total sold = 1951 (Maul x2, Hiddin Knife, and Buckler not sold, you might have sell these on lower difficulties)

Total Gold = 1951 + 3900 = 5851

—Buy the following—

Maul – 325 x2 = 650 (You should now have a total of 4. 1 that you start with, 1 reward and 2 bought)

Traveller Garb – 200 x1 = 200

Total bought = 850

Total Gold = 5851 – 850 = 5001

Step 3 – Recruiting

I recommend recruiting a Lv.2. On lower difficulties you might only have the gold for a Lv.1

  • Learn Mercenary skills for everyone to unlock the Scoundrel class
  • Go the Guild and recruit a Lv.2 Scoundrel for 1000 gold
  • Change Kyrie, Anadine, and Virgil’s class to Scoundrel

—Why Scoundrel?—

  • They have the highest base speed of 106 at Lv.1 and 108 at Lv.2
  • The other stats aren’t significant but they’re balanced, which means you can grow your units as fighters or casters (Kyrie now has 54 base Mnd and makes a great Wizard > Warmage)

Step 4 – Resetting to Lv.1 Scoundrel

  • Verify that Kyrie, Reiner, Anadine, and Virgil are currently a Scoundrel
  • Go the Guild and reset their levels

Congrats each of your unit’s base speed went up by at least 10. This probably took a while to read but it takes less than 5 mins to execute.

If you messed up either step 2 or step 3, just load the auto-save after the intro battle.

Virgil is your slowest unit at 94 speed and he gains 12 points.

Your default jobs have low base speed and low speed growth. Here is a random Virgil from the internet who has 105 speed at Lv.18, which is less than a Lv.1 Scoundrel’s 106.

Step 5 – Health Expert/Counterattack

Change everyone back to a Mercenary to maximize on vicarious learning.

  • Equip Kyrie, Reiner, Anadine, and your Recruit with the Maul. These are your 4 fighters and they will do good damage because of the Maul.
  • Virgil and Lana will only have armor and no weapons. Set their secondary to Holy Magic (healing). These are your 2 back-row healers.
  • Try your best at the Crossroads battle. The faster you take out the Vangals the better. On Very Hard difficulty, I’ve come out unscathed half the time and had a single injury the other half. You can decrease the difficulty if you want.

Either way, after winning you’ll have enough AP to learn Health Expert or Counterattack on Kyrie, Reiner, Anadine, and Virgil. Finally, reset Lana to an Lv.1 Scoundrel.

Let me know if it helped you, and thanks for reading 🙂
