Are you having problems with the gamecrashing? Low FPS Won’t even start? Take a look at these!

Widescreen Fix

This topic is covered in other guides, but it’s important to understand how it works.

Navigate to:

C:/Users/Public/Public Documents/Timegate Studios/FEARXP/settings.cfg

Once you have opened the file, modify the following lines to achieve your desired resolution.

“ScreenWidth” “1920”

“ScreenHeight” “1080”

Save the file once you are done.

Error Loading Render DLL

This can happen when you load a new level. There are many ways to do this, but I have found that the following method is the most effective.

Navigate to your main FEAR folder and the DirectX file (. Your path may differ depending on the drive structure).

C:/Program Files (x86 – /Steam/steamapps/common/FEAR Ultimate Shooter Edition/DirectX/DXSETUP.exe

This file will install DirectX 9.

IMPORTANT

After you have done this, the game may not be able to load any level. This can be fixed by opening the config file located here:

C:/Program Files (x86 – /Steam/steamapps/common/FEAR Ultimate Shooter Edition/FEARXP/ConfigXP.exe

After opening the config tool, set the resolution to default, then open the game and load the level or save file. Save again after you have loaded the game.

Unconfirmed Fixes:

1. FEARXP.exe can be run in compatibility with Windows XP SP3.

2. You can load a different level or save first, then load the file or start a new one.

Runtime Error

This problem may occur at loading levels. This configuration will fix the problem.

Navigate to your FEARXP.

C:/Program Files (x86 – /Steam/steamapps/common/FEAR Ultimate Shooter Edition/FEARXP/FEARXP.exe

Right-click this program and select Properties. Select the Compatibility tab in this window. Check the box under “Settings” that reads “Run this program in administrator mode.”

Low FPS Fix

This game can have erratic and severe FPS drops. Logitech devices are a good example of this. Methanhydrat has fixed this issue on the pcgamingwiki. The.dll fix can be found here:

https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/789-directinput-fps-fix/ – [pcgamingwiki.com]

This is taken from Methanhydrat’s installation text:

1. Extract dinput8.dll from the folder containing the executables of the game. For example:

“C:\Program Files (x86 – \Steam\steamapps\common\FEAR Ultimate Shooter Edition”

2. Start the game as you would normally.

I still experience occasional FPS drops while viewing certain setpieces, but this.dll fix prevents most of the random and constant drops.

Failure to Start

F.E.A.R. If Extraction Point isn’t launching at all the most common solution will be to adjust compatibility settings.

Navigate to your FEARXP.

C:/Program Files (x86 – /Steam/steamapps/common/FEAR Ultimate Shooter Edition/FEARXP/FEARXP.exe

Right-click this program and select Properties. Select the Compatibility tab in this window. Choose Windows 7 from the list of compatibility modes.

I was also told that Windows XP SP3 is also effective, but I found Windows 7 to be the most successful.

Disconnected from Server

This one is single-player and can be approached in a variety of ways. You can try any of the following:

  • Reload the page and reduce the resolution of your texture.
  • Set a default screen resolution, then reload (adding your widescreen fix to the screen again after)).
  • The “Force Restart” setting in the in-game options (Note has never worked for us and has actually caused the dll bug in our experience. Your mileage may vary.)
  • Reloading and setting all graphics options to minimum

NOTE:

This patch is 4GB in size. This fix works for the steam version.

Conclusion

These are the most common (problems and all issues I have personally encountered with F.E.A.R. Extraction Point. You will likely encounter more than one during your playthrough. This means that you may need to apply a new fix halfway through. I hope you found this helpful. Have fun!
