Guide to the presets in Endzone. As a baseline on how each setting would impact your game.

Introduction

A guide to the different settings that can be configured in the Survival Mode of Endzone A World Apart.
This guide is based on the Full release version 1.0.7747

Difficulty Levels

This game has 7 difficulty levels in Survival Mode and 10 Scenarios. In this guide, I’ll just cover the Survival Modes and perhaps do a write-up on the Scenarios and the Strategies to complete each of them, in a separate guide.

The levels are:
(not in any order of difficulty but as ordered in-game)

  • Normal
  • Advanced
  • Maximum Challenge
  • No Trees
  • Build Mode
  • Relax & Discover
  • Easy

Normal

Play a well-balanced but equally challenging game round using neutral settings.

Advanced

This setting makes the game more difficult in comparison to normal round. If you’ve already accumulated some experience, this mode presents you with a new challenge.

Maximum Challenge

For Endzone veterans who are looking for the maximum challenge. Fight against a merciless environment under the most unfavorable conditions. Very difficult, but the journey is the reward!

No Trees

Start a normal, well-balanced game. Your greatest enemy is the scarceness of wood because there are no trees located on the map!

Build Mode

All hazards are sharply reduced. Hardly any Radiation or other negative influences pose a threat to you. All game contents are available to you right from the start. You can focus all your efforts on building here.

Relax & Discover

You can lean back here because hardly any dangers pose a thread to your settlement. You can set off on a discovery journey, enjoy the scenery and build away nice and relaxed.

Easy

Start an easy game in which you still have to combat threats such as Drought. On the other hand, you have much more time to react and prepare yourself.

The Normal mode

The Normal game preset has the the options set as in the table below (in Tutorial vs Normal preset section of this guide). Once you click on an option, the configuration would change to be User-defined. The table also captured the possible values each option can be configured to.

Weather
The Weather section allows you to decide what sort of climate you want to deal with. This section affects the levels of radiation contamination you get when it rains, and if the randomness of unfair multiple occurrences of highly-contaminated Rain is allowed. You can also set the level of damage a Sandstorm may wrought, and how often said Sandstorm occurs during Droughts. And similarly the Drought Director lets you choose to play with multiple occurrences of Droughts in a row, if you want.

Game Settings
This section lets you decide if you want these features (Diseases, Side Missions and Raiders) to be enabled or disabled during gameplay, and the number of animals roaming the map that you can hunt or capture.

Map Settings
This is the section where you decide how your game starts off with the number of Settlers and Resources and what kind of Tools and Clothing you’d like on-hand. Research and Seeds for this difficulty level is set to nothing and off from the get go.

Settlers, Consumption, Wear & Tear and Starting Resources
The combined settings of these 4 options is what determines difficulty during gameplay as it determines how much food and water is consumed and how fast your tools and clothing wear out. If the production chain for these items are not maintained and kept balanced, you’ll fall short and cause starvation, thirst, unproductive and irradiated Settlers and eventually Death. For Normal mode, you get these preset values –
Settlers: Medium – you get 10 Adults and 5 Children
Consumption Rate: Medium
Wear & Tear: Medium
Starting Resources: Normal

Tutorial vs Normal preset

As a comparison on how the Normal mode stacks up to the Tutorial, here’s the table to compare them side-by-side. You can see that the Tutorial settings is set so that your learning curve is not so steep. In the Main Tutorial, you need not deal with Droughts, Diseases and Raiders. The Side Missions are the Missions that Arthur is guiding us through. And you get free resources throughout, especially when Arthur is introducing us to a new Building that he instructs us to build next.

Main Tutorial Map Settings
The world maps in Endzone are procedurally generated based off image stamps for the map-size, number of mountains, and number of lakes. And I got the map-seed below from the Save file of my Tutorial gameplay. I repeated it 4 times and each time, I get the same seed number, so I assume this is set programmatically in the code. The reason I think certain things are coded programmatically is because the loaded map is identical each time, but the initial setting screen differs slightly.

Tutorial map code#: 241289068#200222100310010200022211001

I’m using this as a basis for this guide, because then everyone can see the same things on their own as the Main Tutorial is identical for everyone.

And then the very last thing to to is to input a name for your game. This name would also be used as the Save name.

Bonus

Here’s a bonus for all my readers.
I’ve compiled the rest of the presets in an ellacharmed.files.wordpress.com – https://ellacharmed.files.wordpress.com/2021/03/endzone-presets.xlsx, because Steam Guides formatting is really not conducive to table layouts. And I was kind of hampered in highlighting values and bringing your attention to certain rows.

In addition, in HungerThirst tab, contains the Food and Water consumption data for each level that I use to learn how much I need to produce in my gameplay. Because at the beginning stages of Early Access, I kept failing when I could not figure out how much food and water my settler needs. And with the help of this table and more time in gameplay, I got the hang of it.

So, then this is how it works. I’m going to use my save file Withergate, which is my longest running game since last Jul’s Radiation update – started 12th August 2020. It is one of the files that did not get bugged out with oopsy errors, or at least when one manifested, a Save, Quit and reloading of the game seems to clear it out.

I had set
Consumables Consumption: Low
Equipment Wear & Tear: Slow

In this Save, I have
Adults: 3077
Children: 854

So, I input these values in cells L9and L10respectively

Since I’ve set consumption to LOW, I just need to look at columns M & N. So, for 1 Season I need 52,133 WATER; 32,478 FOOD and if I wanted to focus on building or completing a Mission, I can input the value 20 in cell L12 and I can see I need 1,042,660 WATER; 649,560 FOOD.

And my settlement image above can attest that this game can afford my inattention while I focus on something else besides Water and Food for 20 Seasons at least.

Conclusion

I hope you’ve found this Guide helpful. If you’ve noticed any discrepancies in the Guide as compared to the screenshots, the Excel file or the actual game, don’t hesitate to let me know in the comments below.
