Welcome to Dwarf Fortress – How to Cloud Save for Steam Deck Guide.  This tutorial will show you how to cloud-save your Steam library to your computer or other devices.

Install Dropbox on your PC

Create a folder called GameSaves

Install Dropbox on Steam Deck by clicking Discover, going into Deskstop Mode, and searching dropbox

Sign in if you are unable to sign in.

systemctl restart -user xdg–desktop-portal

Sign in again to firefox. I signed in, but it kept hanging on the sign-in page. I clicked on dropbox to go to the account, but it was already signed in so I don’t know.

After trying to sign into firefox, I also used the Konsole command.

Right-click on the steam library to open the Dwarf Fortress folder. Browse local files. Right-click the window to open it in a terminal. Next, type this into the Konsole window (. The first letter is lowercase L)

ln -s /home/deck/Dropbox/GameSaves/save

This is the steam deck side.

Open a command prompt on Windows pc. Type

mklink /J “D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Dwarf Fortress\save” “E:\Dropbox\GameSaves\save”

Change your path.

It might say that it cannot create a file already in existence. If this happens, delete/move/backup your save folder in the dwarf fortress installation location on steam.

I wanted my steam deck to save the file from being my main save file, so I first saved it in my dropbox GameSaves directory. If you want your pc save to become the main save, back that one up first. You might be able to combine them by changing their saved file names.

Steam deck users should open desktop mode and Dropbox, which will download your PC save. Next, go back to gaming mode and then play. Finally, at the end of the session, open desktop mode and dropbox again. It will then save your folder to your pc.
