Hello and welcome, We will discuss the DREDGE – Fish Types Info in this post, and we sincerely hope you will find it helpful.

NIGHT ANGLER

The infamous ‘ghost ship’ can be seen on the water at nights. It seems to spawn at night, at a distance from your current location. It’s easy to avoid if it’s not too noticeable. (Sometimes, it will spawn on the horizon while you sleep at Greater Marrow/Steel Point.

If it catches your attention/starts following you, it’ll make a distinctive blaring foghorn noise. It is not practical to sneak around it. However, it isn’t particularly fast, so you could outrun it if needed. It can be easy for you to get lost in fog when being chased. Therefore, it is a good idea to keep track of the dock’s location if your out late at evening.

If it catches you, it will attack once (causing hull damage like crashing into an item) and then swim away. It usually despawns at this stage, since I haven’t been attacked twice by it in the night.

THE SERPENT

Gale Cliffs’ large, eellike creature that lives in the cliff caves. It first appeared in the cliff caves when I first entered them from the large archway’ near the village Dock. It seems that it crosses the cliff ‘path’ in the same spot, and rises out of the water to attack you. Once you know the spot, it’s easy just to wait for the swim to pass and avoid the hit.

After a while (it may be after completion of some story-quests in the area), the creature begins to swim around Gale Cliffs bay regardless of night or day. It is very slow so you can avoid them if necessary.

Like the Anglerfish attack, it will only damage the hull once, much like crashing into something. Then, it will swim away. After that, it seems like it will despawn for a few game hours. It’s a good idea to let it attack you in order to explore the area better, especially considering how difficult it can be to navigate the tight areas.

THE KRAKEN

The Stellar Basin giant-octopus. It lives in a deep pit at the heart of the Ring of Islands. It is easily identifiable by the bright pink jellyfish that it surrounds at night and glowing blue coral during the day. The Kraken has large, harmless tentacles at the pit’s edges, and smaller, moving tentacles within.

It will not leave the pit, and it won’t attack you even if you do. If you approach it, it’ll make a rumbling and then quickly strike you with its tentacles. This attack, as the others, causes hull damages similar to crashing against an object. This creature is easy to avoid because it doesn’t seek out or pursue you in any way.

You will eventually be able activate a device claimed to scare the Kraken or enrage it at a point in the story. The device will always frighten it, and you can safely explore the entire area as long you have the device running (which seems long enough to ensure you check all the fishing/dredging sites you might need). When the device shuts down, you’ll hear a rumbling sound that indicates the Kraken is returning to the pit.

MIND SUCKERS

These are tiny, worm-like creatures. You can see their bright yellow glowing eyes and are easy to spot if they are nearby. They are initially underwater invisible but will slowly rise from the water to be visible as you approach.

Mind Suckers are sensitive creatures that can be moved. Hold still for a few second until the Mind Sucker sinks back into water. I’ve found that once they’ve disappeared into water, they won’t respawn for a long time, much like other creatures. (Be aware that there are several of these animals, so one despawn won’t necessarily despawn all the others – you’ll have to do it for each one.

They can be avoided if your cautious. However, if they spot you moving, their yellow eyes will turn orange and they will follow you. They are not very fast or agile, so you can easily outrun them. However they can be difficult to navigate in tight spaces so the Banish spell is a safe and effective way to get rid.

They will panic if they approach you. This is similar to the whispering fog which spawns late at nights. After a few seconds, the fisherman will be feigned panic by launching a set small tentacles at them. This can cause hull injury, but I have not been hit or crashing into these tentacles.

As the story progresses, you’ll be able to access to traps to remove Mind Suckers in at least three locations permanently. I didn’t have enough time to explore this area to determine if it removes all of them. However, I doubt it.

FIREFISH, MAMA FISH

Fire Fish, small, orange/red fish, live in small groups around Devil’s Spine’s ruins. They are pretty harmless, as they have a small detection area and will chase anyone who gets too close. They will make a lot if they reach your boat but not cause any damage. They will slow down your boat and make it very visible if you have large groups. They’re agile but not very fast. If you have a well-maintained boat, they should be easy to outrun.

They are easy due to their bright colour, but can look similar the lava veins also found in the area. You can easily avoid them by being vigilant and cautious, so as not get too close.

You can destroy many barriers in the area with bombs, but banish is also effective. They are also afraid and flee from hot vents throughout the area.

Mama Fish is a much bigger, paler Fire Fish. She’s only half the size your boat and she’s still very small. She patrols the area slowly, and doesn’t pay much notice to your movements. You can hear and feel her roaring from just about anywhere in Devil’s Spines.

Mama Fish is blind. Mama Fish relies on her babies (Fire Fish), for guidance. Mama Fish will turn towards you if the babies of Mama Fish reach your boat. She is slow and easy-to-evade, so running away from her is a good option. Banish will also cause Mama’s Fire Fish to disappear.

Mama hasn’t attacked me so I don’t really know what she does. I assume it’s the same as any other creature (ie. hull injury). I’ll update my post once I have a better idea.

Mama and Fire Fish are the most difficult enemy to get to know, but they can be quite manageable if one is careful.

MIASMA/WHISPERING GOG

Although not a common creature, it could pose a threat. This is the red/pink/purple clouds of fog that appear at night. They will chase after you and cause panic, but they won’t inflict any damage to your boat. They are quite easy to avoid. However they can be run into you if there is another creature nearby, like the Night Angler. They can be destroyed by the Banish spell.

According to Wikipedia, the Miasma is harmless if you turn off the lights on your ship. However, I haven’t tried it.

They are more of a nuisance than a threat, imo.

BIRDS

Although I have not encountered these enemies in game, the wiki indicates that they are enemies who will attack during the days if the player has high panic.

They will steal fish from the player’s cargo and make aberrations, but can be scared off if the ship’s horn is used.

PHANTOMSHARK

This is something I have not encountered in the game. According to the Wiki, this enemy appears in the Gale Cliffs (or Stellar Basin) when the player is feeling panicked.

According to Wikipedia, it is much more fast than the player so it is difficult for them to avoid it. However, they are vulnerable to the Banish spell.

OTHER

WATER RUMBLES

Sometimes you will hear deep, roaring noises when crossing the sea. Almost all audio design makes you nervous. Below is the one exception I know.

SPINED LEVIATHAN

A large creature which will occasionally spawn from the deep water of the Twisted Strand. It hasn’t attacked me yet, though I was able to see it once. Other players have reported being attacked by it (and instakilled). It could have been a result that you stayed too long near it (I quickly moved away until I reached the dock) or high panic levels.

If you do spot it, keep moving and you’ll be fine.

(Note, this is the exact same creature you’ll be seeing if it stray from the edge.

SHIPWRECK TRUCK CRABS

Giant crabs disguise themselves as regular shipwrecks, and are found in fixed positions on the map. Three of them were discovered by me during regular play. They will behave much like a regular shoreline shipwreck with some scrap dredging locations nearby. But they will become active if you approach them. They will quickly raise their claws and lash out at you. But they won’t pursue and they are easy to avoid so long as you don’t get too close. They may cause minor hull injury if they are struck.

BONUS: DOLPHINS/WHALES

Completely harmless They can sometimes bump your boat a bit but will not cause any damage and they won’t actively pursue anyone. They are normal little guys (:
