How to get the DLC bundle to actually work thanks to EA’s awful publishing.

If you’ve played Dragon Age 2 recently you’ll find that you won’t be able to play any of the DLC. I had this issue, and went on a crusade insane enough to rival the Lyrium-addled Templars across the internet and finally found the answers on a decade-old EA forum, so I thought I’d put them here instead for people to have an easier time of it.
 
 
Because EA is a bunch of cretinous morons (see Battlefield 2042), for some reason they need you to sign in to everything under the sun when you boot up one of their games. One problem – Dragon Age 2 doesn’t let you. Even when you put in the correct credentials you’ll be met with a ‘Could not connect to the EA servers. Please try again.’ message. Which is weird, because even though Dragon Age; Origins is a much older game, it works perfectly fine. You can play the base game easily enough without having to sign in but I’ll be damned if I spend £20 on a DLC bundle that refuses to let me play it. After all, nothing will stop that Mabari hound from crapping on the floors of the Hawke Estate, certainly not me and certainly not EA’s rubbish support.
 
 
So this is what you have to do:
 
 
1) Boot up Dragon Age: Origins (It sucks that you have to have a completely different game to get this to work but hey, it’s a cracking game so give it a go before moving on to DA2).
 
 
2) Sign in to your EA account.
 
 
3) Alt/Tab onto your desktop.
 
 
4) Boot up Dragon Age 2.
 
 
5) Sign in to your EA account (you shouldn’t have a problem with this anymore).
 
 
6) Close both games (your GPU will thank you).
 
 
7) Boot up Dragon Age 2 again.
 
 
8) Go to the Winchester, have a pint, and wait for it all to blow over.
 
 
Okay so maybe not that last part but at least you’ll be able to play the Dragon Age 2 DLC now. Don’t forget to bring your pepper spray when you visit Xenon!
