DayZ – Basic Survial Guide in the woods.

Intorduction.

This guide will help you survive in the woods, help you get food and water.

It will also teach you some of the most common crafted items, such as:

Stone knife, campfire, survival shelter and much more.

Basic Survival Tools.

I think that a knife or a machete is the best thing you can find when deciding to live or go to the forest.

An a small/fire/regular axe will come useful when chopping down trees for fire wood.

A weapon.
Sometimes, when going trough a forest, you may encounter a pack of wolfs or even a bear. In that case, you need a weapon to protect yourself. Anything that has ammo and is capable of shooting, will come to your advantage.

Stone Knife.

How to find:

Serach for rocky surface and there you should find a small rock, then you can craft a stone knife.

Campfire/Fireplace.

Campfire/Fireplace is the most common crafted thing in DayZ.
Heres how to craft and use it.

Things needed:

• Small Sticks
• Rags / Paper / Bark (any kind) / Bandage

Fireplace/Campfire can be also upgraded:

• Stone
  |8| = Stone ring around campfire/fireplace.
  |16| = Stone Oven

Cooking with campfire/fireplace.

Things needed:

• Long stick
  – Used for cooking meat and many more consumable items.
• Tripod
  – Tripod is useless w/o a pot, but when you have a pot, you can attach the pot to the tripod and cook food.
• Pot
  – Cooking in pot can have more items in it to cook in.
  You can cook with:
• Animal Fat
  – Animal fat can be used as a raw meal, it restores ton of a food bar.
• Water
• Nothing
  – Cooking with nothing can result in burning the food.

Cooking on a stove:

Cooking on a stove does not require a tripod being attached to it.
You can place the meat on the rocks and cook it w/o the pot, but it also can be conbined with the pot.

Improvised Shelter.

If you are looking to build an a improvised shelter then a tarp will come useful when found on ground.
Keep in mind that sometimes the tarp is 3/4 or 2/4, then you are not able to craft the IS. (improvised shelter)
But, if you dont have a tarp then you can use sticks |50| or a animal skin |8|.

Things needed:

• 4 long sticks.
• Animal Skin / Tarp / Small Sticks

(No special tools needed)

How to craft:

• 1 rope
• 4 small sticks

Finding Food.

Running low on food? No problem.

Sometimes you can find mushrooms below the trees.
But note that sometimes you have to cook them to avoid any diseases.
Also not all mushrooms you find are edible.

Hunting.

You can hunt animals, boars, bears, cows, chicken etc.

The most valuable part of an animal is their skin and also animal fat.

Skin can be used for shelters and also crafting backpacks.

But animal fat is the most valuable.
It can be used for cooking, but, if you eat it it restores so much of your food bar that its ridiculous.

Fishing.

You can catch fish with Simple Fishing Rod or a normal Fishing Rod.
But keep in mind that not all normal Fishing Rods spawn with a hook.
You can create a hook from bones, homan nor animal. But you can also find a hook.

To create a Simple Fishing Rod you need:

• Long stick
• Rope

Bait

Fish can be cought by various baits.
Most used is the worm.
You can dig for worms by looking at the ground.
Then you attach the worm to the hook and you can go catch fishies.
