This guide will show you the location of all the secret areas in the game.

Introduction

There are quiet a lot of secret areas located throughout Dark Messiah of Might & Magic Single Player for the player to find like with Half-Life 2’s lambda caches or Sin Episodes: Emergence’s hidden item containers. These secret areas can contain a wide range of items to pick up including healing and mana potions, magic scrolls, weaponry and more for the work and time put into finding them.

The following list contains all of the secret areas in the order they appear in game, with a description about how to access each and every one, bundled together with images of the secrets themselves, what items they contain and what number the secret is in the game.

Most of the time they are made intentionally rather difficult to find as they are hidden in areas the player might not look after them but can in addition most of the time require the player to either stack objects or climb ropes to reach them, being skilled by using maneuvers like jumping or crouching, requiring keys to open doors or must be opened by pushing buttons blending in with the environment to such an extend that they are invisible to the nak*d eye without knowing it is there.

There are 51 secret areas in the game however these secrets only include hidden areas and items where a short sound effect will play while displaying a small hud hint letting the player know they have found a secret. A lot of items are naturally hidden away in the game for the player to explore more of the levels when they go through them but most of these are not classified as secrets and as such not included on this list either.

The Gleam of a Cold Knife

After you just have exited the tower to Stonehelm, take the route on your right and continue until you see a straw covered shed. Stand in front of the shred, sprint towards it and jump (hold the key) to climb on to it. Afterwards turn to your right and do the same thing to get on top of the balcony.

While still at the foot of the tower, follow the route on the right up the staircase, walk straight forward for a bit until you see a second smaller staircase right in front of you. Walk up the stairs and enter the house through the door on your left, then continue walking into the house to the second floor and interact with the light fixture on the wall. Climb up the rope dropping from the ceiling and the secret should be at the end of the hallway.

Walk over to the market where the large gate is but do not go talk to Leanna, instead walk over to the ladder found nearby. Wait for the NPC to get down if any, then climb up and enter the first window on your right.

When you wake up to necromancers attacking the castle, continue playing as normal until you get to an open cellar room with the bluish lighting scheme and spike racks standing by columns. There you will find a stone button on the the floor that you can press which will open an hidden door to a secret area.

Continue walking towards the opposite door when you arrive at the main hall of the building to enter a separate room with a chimney, here pick up the candelabra at the left side and place it at the right side. This will open a hidden crawling space containing a secret chest.

While still in the main hall, walk up one of the staircases and open the first door to your left and continue from here down the hallway and up the spiral staircase to the second floor library. Here pull the lever located by the windows beside the spiral staircase from which you entered, which will release a rope by the ceiling for you to climb up onto the wooden beam above you. Walk along the beam until you see a barred off section of the library at your left for you to jump into.

While still in the library, walk up the wooden staircase nearby and you should at some point see a small square door being a part of the wall. Open it and walk across the wooden beam located above the main hall and you should see the secret just above the door to the room with the chimney inside.

The Temple of the Spider

When you have just arrived by boat to the island and entering the temple ruins guarded by orcs, take out all the enemies one by one in the area until Leanna reminds you that you should find a way inside. Enter the tunnels underneath but instead of going straight back up again, follow the paths to the end, look up and you can use your rope bow to enter one of the locked off ruins.

After reaching the top of the spider pit, jump down into the caves and following the route as normal until you see a pool of water to your right. Jump down into it and a chest containing secrets should be at the bottom.

After activating the crystal and getting the spider keys, take the lift back down and backtrack over the bridge into the temple where you fought the cyclopes. From here walk onto the level above you by the staircase and you should see a lot of locked doors. This door is the second opening to the left.

This door is the third opening to the left, which is always open and does not require a key, and contains a broken hole in the wall granting you access to the interior of the fourth door as well.

This door is the second opening to the right.

This door is the third opening to the right.

After entering the temple and fighting the orcs in the main chamber, Leanna gives you access to the corridor to activate the crystal. Follow through and you should soon see a huge interior with goblins inside of it waiting for your arrival. Smash the wooden boards securing one the columns and it should fall down, giving you the ability to walk over it.

You have just fought and killed the dragon while the main road being blocked off by goblins which makes you require taking a deture around the blockage. You drop down into a corridor which breaks giving you access to the spiders caves. From this point on continue walking along the right wall until you see a hole in the ground which you should enter, leading to a river.

When you just dropped into the tunnels, the secret will be right behind you and you can get to by going right until you see some spider eggs on the ground, then look up and use your rope bow to get to a tunnel leading directly to the secret area.

When you get to the spider pit there should be a plateau with broken pillars located right in front of you, which you can up to by using your rope bow on the wooden beam in the ceiling and climbing up.

Continue forward into the spider pit and use your rope bow and smart maneuvering to get height onto the platforms above you, where the secret will be located at the highest platform in the pit and can be distinguished by its metal chain.

When you have just got outside the caves to the cliffside from which point on you will fight orcs, you will break some wooden boards and Xana will tell you to look around. Go into the cave and use the battering ram to break open the sealed entrance guarding the secrets.

When you get to the wooden houses placed higher up along the cliffside by the lift you have just fixed, go to your right and use your rope bow on the wooden beam above you and climb through the hole in the ceiling. From there jump through the hole in the wall and climb up the exterior rope to get the house located above you, which you can enter by the door on the opposite side.

The Altar of the Skull

When using your rope bow to enter the level on which the spider statue stands, climb on top of the wooden beam you shot your rope into, from its base, and continue onto the platforms above. The secret should be at the ledge in the corner of the room.

After entering the next set of chambers, go around the wall opposite the door from which you entered where an abyss will be visible. Use your rope bow and shoot into the wooden beam on the right side of the room with the abyss below it and the secret should be located on a platform in the corner.

When you have just exited the catacombs by the chain inside of the claustrophobia tunnels, continue up the spiral staircase and take the first door on your right into the big open chamber. Go down the two staircases to your left and jump down on the ledge behind the left side of the arc to get onto the ground underneath. From here the secret should be in plain sight.

While in the same chamber, shoot a rope into the top most wooden cross beams in the ceiling in close proximity to the chains already there. Jump down into the water below, climb up the chains and afterwards the rope until you stand on the wooden beams in the ceiling. Walk carefully on the beams to the chest which can be seen from any location.

You have just opened a gate by a rotating wheel and are on your way into the catacombs below by opening a coffin. Before jumping down, use telekinesis to place the statue laying on the ground to its place in the corner and a door should open up to a hidden room.

Fire in the Blood

You have just been resurrected by Xana giving you access to your demonic form, while laying beside a pile of corpses. Since the orcs have taken your backpack, play the game as normal until you get it back and afterwards go back to where you spawned. Then jump into the river and swim underwater along the most left river until you get to a small patch of land where the secret will be located.

After fighting the cyclops in captivity you will be able to see the secret far up on the wooden platforms on the far back wall. You can gain access to it by going through the spider cave and from there use the rope bow to climb over there by the wooden beams and platforms scattered across the rock wall.

After leaving the cyclops arena you will arrive at a huge open ravine where you should follow the path and cross the small wooden bridge above the abyss. You will enter a goblin hideout from which point on you should continue walking in a straight line until you get to a wall where a hidden button in the left corner of the room will open hidden door.

You enter the dank tunnels after escaping the giant worm with lots of mindless vermin flying around as Xana puts it. Use your rope bow on the wooden beam in front of you when standing in the tunnel to the first chamber, climb it and follow the path until you are able to jump down onto a ledge below you to enter a tunnel with the secret hidden deep inside.

When trying to achieve the secret above, this one will be granted along the way when trying to reach it.

When entering the pit beside the chamber you just came from, do not raise the water level right away but instead use your rope bow to access the small tunnel up to your right from the entrance.

When the water level in the pit is completly raised continue up to the top level the wooden hut, where you should be able to see another tunnel in the middle of the pit with a wooden beam above it. Use your rope bow to access it and you should be able to get loot at the end of the tunnel by following the path to its end, just remember to jump over the hole in your way.

In the House of Ashes

You have just entered Arantir’s room with Leanna screaming for help neaby, with the secret being hidden by a bookshelf just to your left and accessed by the light fixture just beside it.

City of Flames

Just after reaching the beginning of the chapter, climb up the ladder to exit the sewer and use your lock picking skills to open the first door on your left.

Continue up the staircase nearby and you should see a small platform above you with an open window which you can gain access to by using your rope bow.

A soon while after you will cross a bridge nearby where there will be able to see a wooden walkway just above you. You can reach it by shooting your rope bow on the underside of the roof on the building to your right to gain access. Then cross the wooden plank and enter the window on the opposite side.

Just to your right by the cobblestone bridge when looking into the abyss you will see a dead soldier by the cliffside. If you are careful you can jump down onto it to get some loot and get up again with the use of your rope bow by shooting at the wooden beam sticking out just above up.

While still inside of the building to the left of the bridge, there will be a small opening in the wall with wooden planks for you to walk on to a small sidearea with a dead soldier leaning on the cobblestone wall with some loot located beside him.

Follow Percy up all the set of stairs where he should stand by and watching the cyclops through a opening in the building’s roof. Another door just to your left, located just above the room for the last secret, should gain you access to another room to some more loot by lock picking the door open.

You have just gained knowledge that a cyclops is nearby and the guide Percy will hold a door open for you to exit the building into a yard. From here use lock picking to open the first door to your right, walk up the staircase and then enter the room by the door to your left on the first floor.

After killing a bunch of goblins by a well with everything around it being lit up by fire, you will climb a metal rope from where you will be able to see a cobblestone bridge right in front of you by the cobblestone wall with hurt soldiers nearby. A opening in the ground within the third arc will lead you to the secret, which can be opened by a hidden button in the wall right beside it.

At this point you should still be at the cobblestone bridge from earlier and follow the path around the house to the left and you should see a hole in the wall around the corner. From here you should be able to see an orange glow eminating from a house, where the loot of hidden behind a wine barrel.

After you have dealt with a horde of goblins centered around the cobblestone bridge, continue following the route through the wooden door and you should be able to see another cobblestone bridge going over the abyss. From here you can either choose to stand right at the base of the bridge where you can jump down into the bush below to your right walking at the edge of building, or you can jump on top of the straw covered shed beside the one on fire and jump over the wall behind the house.

After loading the next level you will find yourself in a dining room where you can climb up the ladder to the attic containing the secret.

Walk out the door of the dining area and there should be another house with a door just around the corner, where you can use lock picking to gain access.

This secret is located in the same building on the opposite side where another door which too requires lock picking will be available. Be careful as the interior is dark and contains and enemy.

Go into the next area and the secret will be located in the building located right above the staircase and the canal leading to a water lock down stream. You will meet the guide Percy yet again and from here you can use your rope bow on the wooden beam to get to the window with the wooden platform just above you.

Follow Percy across the canal where he will be talking about raining the water level and use lock picking on the door on your right.

Follow Percy into the house located to your left from the bridge and go upstairs where the loot will be spread across two connected rooms.

Epilog

You have just survived a fire trap by climbing into a broken off area to not get damaged, from here walk up the staircase and walk out the door to your left and onto the ledge below. Follow it to the wooden beams and chain around the left corner. From here jump on the ledge below you and crawl through the arcs in the proceeding rooms in the given order: (1) front, (2) left , (3) front right, (4) front

Just after you have killed four lich kings and wandered through two large wooden doors you should now be in a chamber with a high ceiling, statues and chains hanging from the ceiling. From here walk straight up to the statue in front of you and jump out into the middle of the chamber, climb up the chains and jump off on to the ledge just 45 degrees to your left. Follow the ledge and from here use your rope bow on the wooden beams in the ceiling to get to the far left most corner of the room where a chest will be hidden.
