Introduction and background
In Control, there are a number of named, golden, unique mods that apply to the various weapon forms and of course the player themselves.
In this guide i’ll be listing the names, affects, methods of attainment, and my own ranking of the usefulness of each mod.
This is a guide for players who have finished the game but might have missed one or two of these unique mods, so there will inevitably be some spoilers.
(additionally, every mod listed except for Eternal Fire is acquired through the AWE DLC, so if you haven’t reached that point then this guide will not help you)
Aerobics
This first one is the unique personal mod of the game called “Aerobics”
As you can see, the affect of this mod is to heal the player every time they evade.
This is regarded as the best mod in the game and justifiably so. It is one of the only proper ways to actively heal in the game that doesn’t require enemies around and doesn’t require backtracking to a control point.
You can get this mod in the AWE DLC by finding a secret room within another secret room in the shifted pa*sage, then putting a code into the clock in said room.
The code is 1 7 7 1 6 4 9 7

Eternal Fire
This is the unique Grip mod called “Eternal Fire”
As shown here, the affect is that it has a 100% chance to refill ammo with every hit.
Naturally, this mod could be incredibly overpowered given the right weapon, however it is balanced in part by how Grip is a relatively weak weapon. Though im sure with good enough damage mods and a fully upgraded Grip, it’d become quite powerful.
You can get this mod by completing a puzzle in which you throw 6 TVs into the furnace in maintenance using launch.
You can look for the TVs yourself or you can refer to www.polygon.com – https://www.polygon.com/control-guide/2019/8/28/20835698/furnace-tv-locations for a more detailed guide
One-Way Track
This is the unique Shatter mod called “One-Way Track”
The affect of this, while not immediately clear, is very powerful. This mod changes how Shatter works to where every shot will always land at the center of the crosshair. why is this overpowered? well it’s because the damage Shatter does is based on the idea that only a fraction of the shots will hit, maybe half at most. But with this mod, it turns what was a shotgun into a powerful handcannon that can kill most enemies in 1 to 2 hits (though many strong enemies will take more)
This mod has an additional synergy with mods that allow you to fire additional projectiles acting as an exponential damage increase when paired with a normal damage upgrade.
To get this mod is rather easy as it simply requires you to complete the side quest “Dead in its Tracks” from the AWE DLC.
To complete the side quest you need to interact with the train in the Eagle Limited section and activate the sound cues in chronological order. (you’ll know what I mean when you’re there)
Custodial Readiness
This is the unique Pierce mod called “Custodial Readiness”
This mod as you can see, basically removes the charge time Pierce normally has, making it fire instantly. This is obviously very useful and makes Pierce a much more viable weapon. Functionally it acts like Shatter when you use One-Way Track, except it doesn’t have as much potential damage output. Still very useful at long range, however I personally don’t use it so much.
Getting this mod is very straightforward, It simply requires you finish the “another fine mess” series of side quests that you can get near the start of the AWE DLC.
Spam Mail
This is the unique Spin mod called “Spam Mail”
This mod can functionally double the damage of Spin after killing an enemy with it. This can of course be very powerful, however I ran into a problem where it takes me an entire clip to kill 1 enemy with Spin, then during the time it takes to reload I miss the double damage window.
My issue can be mitigated with the proper ammo cost reduction or increased reload speed mod but the problem was that I don’t actually have any good ones that would help. So sadly I couldn’t make full use of this unique mod.
Getting this mod is fairly simple, It can be found by finishing the “Return to Sender” side quest in the AWE DLC.
Thin Space
This is the unique Charge mod called “Thin Space”
This mod effectively turns Charge into a hitscan weapon. This means when you fire, the projectiles instantly hit where you were aiming. With the right damage mods (and just in general) this mod can be very powerful and fun.
To get this mod the player needs to complete the “Gerbil Took Top Head” side quest in the AWE DLC, which is found in the Fra Mauro section of the DLC.
Seventh Unique Mod?
I have so far covered a Unique mod for every weapon form as well as the Unique personal mod, Except for one.
The AWE DLC adds in a new weapon form by the name of Surge.
Surge is basically a sticky grenade launcher, and it’s one of my main weapons. What’s strange is that it doesn’t seem to have its own Unique mod.
Incidentally, there IS a unique mod for the weapon, however it is not normally attainable in game.
The unique mod for Surge is called “Demolition Dispenser” and it would allow the weapon to fire more than 3 shots at a time (the normal weapon can only have 3 stickies active at any given moment).
While not necessarily overpowered like One-Way Track. I’d imagine it could be quite fun to play around with.
As stated before there is no legitimate way to get this mod, however it is possible to acquire by using the www.nexusmods.com – https://www.nexusmods.com/control/mods/26
On the mod page there’s www.nexusmods.com – https://www.nexusmods.com/control/articles/3 which lists the code for every item in the game. This is where you would find the Surge mod and add it to your inventory. (one of the comments on the article did the work of categorizing everything and making it readable)
