Simplified tech guide that demonstrates the various tech in Boring Man: Online Tactical Stickman Combat.

===Non-Weapon Specific Tech===

This section refers to the universal tech that can be performed without any weapons.
Mainly using the in-game mechanics, like rolling or ladders.

Ladder Hopping

To perform; spam E (the interact button) as quickly as possible over and over again to scale the ladder faster than using W.

Simple Mashing:

Variants

  1. Ladder & Wall: If a ladder is nearby a wall, hold a direction towards the wall and spam E (the interact button) as fast as possible
  2. Fast Ladder & Wall: If a ladder is nearby a wall, hold a direction towards the wall and rhythmically press E and W to scale the ladder and jump off the wall once you’ve made contact
  3. Ladder Jumping: If a ladder has no nearby wall, rhythmically press E and W to scale the ladder and double-jump when the boost from releasing the ladder has run out. Using a jetpack drastically speeds up this method.
  4. Simple Mashing: No matter what, you can always just mash E (the interact button) to quickly scale the wall. It’s the slowest, but it has the added advantage of being able to shoot directly downwards.

You’ll know if you got it if you quickly scale the ladder faster than simply holding W.
This is the easiest tech to perform in Boring Man and is often where new players should start first.

Ladder Roll

To perform; while rolling and if you make contact with a ladder, press E to grab onto it, preserving your roll state until you get off the ladder, giving you an added boost along with it

Ladder Roll:

You’ll know if you got it if you roll off the ladder.
This can be done off of any type of roll; roof, sable, super, or just a normal roll.

Roll Cancel

To perform; during any roll, simply press the opposite direction of where you’re moving to cancel it

Roll Cancel:

You’ll know if you got it if you cancelled the roll.
This isn’t really tech so much as a quality-of-life feature, it gives you extra flexibility in combat and allows you to quickly retry tech or add onto some.

Sable Roll (Jump Roll)

To perform; jump while moving forward and quickly flick S (or crouch) to perform a sable roll

Sable Roll:
Boring Man - Online Tactical Stickman Combat - Boring Man Tech Guide

Methods

  1. Can be done by pressing W with your middle finger
then quickly moving your middle finger downward to tap S while keeping A or D held
  2. Alternatively, can be done by moving your ring finger/index finger to S in order to easily press W and hold A or D, whilst using the opposite finger to press S with the right timing.

You’ll know if you got it if you performed a roll while jumping.
This is the "universal tech" of Boring Man and leads into the majority of other actions.
You should practice this one the most.

Surgo Roll (Roof Roll)

To perform; bump a roof with your head while moving forward, once your head bumps quickly flick S (or crouch) to perform a surgo roll

Surgo Roll:
<gif of surgo roll, I’ll add a gif when it gets fixed again>

Methods

  1. Upon contact with a roof, quickly move your middle finger downward to tap S while keeping A or D held
  2. Alternatively, can be done by moving your ring finger/index finger to S in order to easily press S and hold A or D, whilst using your middle finger to press W in order to bump the roof.

You’ll know if you got it if you performed a roll off of the roof.
This is great for unpredictable movement or very specific jumps involving wall boosts.

Roll Cancel Double-jump (RCDJ)

To perform; input a sable roll, cancel it, then input a double-jump at the apex of the height given from the sable-roll cancel.

RCDJ (Roll-Cancel Double-jump):
Boring Man - Online Tactical Stickman Combat - Boring Man Tech Guide

You’ll know if you got it if you can reach slightly higher than 3 blocks.
This tech is very very obscure and has little to no use for most maps and players.
It has niche use within climb maps and for loadouts without a jetpack, such as reaching the top of UliZ’s Marble Garden without a jetpack.

(Alternatively, you can just get this height by jumping with a lot of speed, since speed slightly increases your jump height. This is only really used to get higher than 3 blocks from a stand-still.)

Wall Boost

To perform; after doing any kind of roll into a wall, press jump right as you make contact with the wall for a quick boost. Most commonly done with a sable roll

Wall Boost:

Dyson City Jump:
Boring Man - Online Tactical Stickman Combat - Boring Man Tech Guide

You’ll know if you got it if you see the speed effect on the edge of your screen.
In reality, the boost gained from this tech isn’t very advantageous (it decays before you can chain into a bhop and dissipates very quickly), however the fact you can do this out of pretty much any roll at any wall on the map adds up quickly. It even allows you to reach Dyson City’s mid using it.

Bhopping (Bunny Hopping)

To perform; jump forward or enter the air with speed, then input a double-jump as soon as you land, jumping off the ground immediately.

Bhopping:

Boring Man - Online Tactical Stickman Combat - Boring Man Tech Guide

You’ll know if you got it if you see the speed effect on the edge of your screen, or if you see the double-jump particles beneath your feet without performing the double-jump animation.
This tech is the only way you can preserve speed from any sort of boost
You should practice this one just about as often as you practice Sable Rolling.

Momentum Storage

To perform; hold the opposite direction of your current movement whilst holding the other. Basically, you press and hold A and D at the same time.

Slow Walk using Momentum Storage:
Boring Man - Online Tactical Stickman Combat - Boring Man Tech Guide

Cancelling knockback using Momentum Storage:
Boring Man - Online Tactical Stickman Combat - Boring Man Tech Guide

This tech allows you to:

  • Halt all momentum past the speed cap.
  • Move exactly at the speed you begun the MV with no variation until you release one of the directions.
  • Move absurdly slow if you start the MV with very low speed.
  • Cancel knockback from firing weapons in the air if it exceeds the speed cap.
  • Preserve momentum if it doesn’t exceed the speed cap.

You’ll know if you got this if you:

  • Can move absurdly slow, so much that it slows the animations.
  • Halt knockback as after the speed cap has been reached.

This tech is absurdly obscure and offers almost no use except for doing the slow-walk for giggles in a match. It gives you little to no advantage in an actual match (usually if you’re suffering immense knockback from a boost you WANT it to happen, either that or it’s better to use it to escape), or it’s too slow to be practical.

Still, tech is tech and it’s listed as such.

===Weapon Specific Tech===

This covers the tech available for specific weapons,
along with universal concepts relating to weapons.

This section will probably be updated the most,
there’s a lot to cover and new weapons could potentially introduce new tech.

Boosting — Universal Wep

While not necessarily a piece of "tech" as much so as it’s an engine mechanic.
You can receive a boost by being shot for enough damage, shoot a weapon that has knockback, or through various means like tech or bounce-pads.

Just in general though, to self-boost: jump or enter the air in some way, shoot the gun in the opposite direction of where you’d like to go, profit.

Examples of Boosts:
Boring Man - Online Tactical Stickman Combat - Boring Man Tech Guide

Boosts can cancelled by:

  • Momentum Storage (Kinda…)
  • Ladders
  • Water
  • Rolling (Yes, rolling will hard-cap your momentum.)
  • Being stopped by a wall

Boosts can be extended by:

  • Other boosts
  • Bhopping
  • Skateboard

Yet again, this section is more here just for consistency.
Most of this is obvious except for some things, like the various momentum cancels.

Double Double Jump (DDJ) — Jetpack

To perform; double-jump right before touching the ground, this preserves your ability to double-jump and still gives you the boost from the double-jump. This tech is identical to bhopping.

DDJ (Double Double Jump):
Boring Man - Online Tactical Stickman Combat - Boring Man Tech Guide

You’ll know if you got it if you get the extra height from both jumps.
One of the simplest techs, technically a universal tech, but only offers a height advantage on the jetpack.

Super Roll — Jetpack

To perform; double-jump as close to the ground as possible and flick S with insanely tight timing, making you roll with added height.

Super Roll:
Boring Man - Online Tactical Stickman Combat - Boring Man Tech Guide

Methods

  1. Can be done by double-tapping W quickly with your middle finger
then quickly moving your middle finger downward to tap S while keeping A or D held
  2. Alternatively, can be done by moving your ring finger/index finger to S in order to easily press jump, hit the strict double-jump, whilst holding A or D, then using the opposite finger to immediately press S with strict timing.

You’ll know if you got it if you performed a very tall roll while jumping.
This is the identical to sable rolling, with an added step, which makes the timing ridiculously hard.
It only offers extra height with the jetpack, so it’s listed as weapon-only tech.

(Originally had like three other stupid a*s names, I’ve just listed it as "Super Roll" to avoid any confusion.)

Grapple Roll — Grapplehook

To perform; shoot the grapplehook about 3-4 blocks in front of you, then time a roll to start after the grapplehook makes contact with the ground, shooting you forward at high speeds.

Grapple Roll:
Boring Man - Online Tactical Stickman Combat - Boring Man Tech Guide

You’ll know if you got it if you get launched very far whilst rolling.
Unlike v1, you’re required to roll before the grapplehook connects instead of during, as v1’s occurred due to the game stopping your animations during a grapple.
