Battle Puzzles are unique to this card battler game, a break from the intense fights and demanding use of more brainpower, which might be frustrating at times. Thankfully, you can now skip the battle if you want. On the other hand, if you enjoy the fun and want to know how to solve them, read no further!

Dog Creek

This is an optional task when helping Nikolay with his quest. It will appear on the map as “Dog Creek”.

When confronted with the dialogues:

Prepare to fight

You have 3 moves in this battle-puzzle.

1st Turn

You will notice the middle demon with 14HP intents to buff all demons for an additional 10HP, obviously you need to kill it first. Use Ognevitsa (9 damage) on him, then use Nikolay to attack him for 5 damage, that will kill him off.

Next you need to target the highest HP demon (30HP) on the right, he will disable your black words next turn, nothing you can do about it except to use all the black words on the first turn, and to take maximum advantage of well-verse. Use Korkusha (Waste 5) on him.

Finally use Blood-burn to apply waste on enemies whenever you take damage later.

2nd Turn

This is an easy one. You only have white words to use, obviously don’t choose Headless as you want to be damaged to trigger Blood-burn’s waste. Choose the 3 remaining white words, starting from Audelai, Altar, Lazarus and end turn. The right demon will attack first (removing your shield), followed by the left demon.

3rd Turn

Use Skorchen (12 damage) on the right demon, Perepolah (3 damage to all), and Ruda (2 damage) on the left demon. That will kill them off with the waste damage.

Creaky Woods

This is Nikolay’s main quest. It will appear on the map as “Creaky Woods”.

Prepare to fight

You have 3 moves in this battle-puzzle.

1st Turn

The Huge Log (63HP) intends to use Rotten Bark (Waste 999) on you. You have to use Imperishable Phelonion on yourself (Waste restores health instead of dealing damage). Then, use Headless for damage absorption (as Huge Log will use attack 999 during his 2nd turn). Finally, use Enaha Demon to remove the Ward status on him.

2nd Turn

You need to damage him now. Use Korkusha (Waste 5), Urazi, then Herod’s Bones (Double Waste).

3rd Turn

Use Korkusha (Waste 5), Tryasovitsa (Inflict damage equals to Waste x2) and Ruda (damage 2), along with Nikolay’s attack (5 damage). He will be left with 14HP and the 14 Waste damage will kill him off.

BONUS: At the end of the battle, during the cut scene with the Crazy Woman, answer [Changeling] for +200 experience.

Vilgoth Cemetery – Prokopy Lair

This is Ded Egor’s loyalty quest of catching a cemetery chort that had mauled a cow in the Vilgort cemetery chapel.

This battle-puzzle introduces another unique twist, fighting against another koldun!

Like you, kolduns can weave zagovors using pages.

You need to make a zagovor out of fewer or same number of pages (excuding firm pages and gestures) to go first.

You have 4 moves in this battle-puzzle.

1st Turn

Notice that he plans to use 2 black words to deal 6 damage each to you, and 1 white word to add 33 armor to himself.

Furthermore, he also has a ward that adds 50 armor to him at the start of each turn.

It’s clear that you won’t be able to beat him using the usual attack damage, so you will need to use Waste. Use Bloodburn in the first turn itself, as any time you use sacrifice, Waste will get stacked onto your enemy.

Besides that, you need to adequately defend yourself, as you will die immediately on any damage done by the enemy on your health.

The obvious choice will be:

Headless (6 armor and damage absorption 1)

Ognevitsa (damage 9 with well-versed)

Bloodburn (Burning blood 1)

Firm Knife (Gesture, Firm 1 and Sacrifice 1)

Use Ded Egor’s Curse on him to further reduce his attack damage, you only have 4 turns, so there is no need to save it for last.

2nd Turn

Use to following:

Headless (6 armor and damage absorption 1)

Breakbone (Sacrifice x3)

Red Sun (double your armor, then Sacrifice)

You will completely negate his damage, while stacking Waste damage on him from the Sacrifice.

3rd Turn

You have 2 damage absorption to negate his 2 attacks. So you don’t have to use Headless this turn.

Use the following:

Dead Man (Increase Waste on the turn start)

Breakbone (Sacrifice x3)

Herod Bones (Double Waste)

He will die immediately on his turn, with the Waste damage at 14 exceeding his 10HP.

NOTE: For this battle-puzzle, there are other possible solutions, as you even get another turn to try.

BONUS: After you defeated him, during the cut scene with Ded Egor on how to dispose the restless dead, choose [Break the spine] or [Hammer an aspen stake] to get +100 experience.

Road to Yanidor

This is the first stop while helping Proshka to learn of his past.

Choose 2. Prepare to fight

You have 2 moves in this battle-puzzle, which makes it easy to figure out.

1st Turn

THe demon will attack for 999 damage.

Fret not, simply choose 2 of the highest damage black pages (Kila) for a total of 10 attack damage, then Lazarus (Rebirth 1).

2nd Turn

Go all out to kill it off, you will notice a combination of 2 Kila and 1 Koldun Fiend will deal a total of 15 damage, just enough to kill the demon.
