This guide will teach you to significantly boost your FPS even though the game can sometimes be unstable and crash.

What are FSR & DLSS used for?

FSR and DLSS, or Deep Learning Super Sampling, are two different technologies that can improve video game performance. These technologies, which render at lower resolutions before using advanced upscaling methods, help achieve smoother gaming on hardware capable of handling high solutions while still delivering visually pleasing results. DLSS, however, is limited to RTX GPUs only, as it requires tensors. FSR, on the other hand, can be used on any GPU.

How to install FSR 2.

I also had a poor FPS on the lowest option in the menu and when creating characters. I tested out several settings. I also looked for online advice but only saw “Update Your Drivers” and “Upgrade Your PC.” PotatoOfDoom’s mod for Cyberpunk 2077 swapped DLSS for FSR 2; the description also stated that FSR2 was potentially compatible with any game that used DLSS because they both used the same dataset to upscale. Similar mods for other matches were found after a little more digging.

However, no Baldurs Gate 3 Mod could be found. Then I decided to visit the “DLSS2FSR” Discord server, referenced in a mod’s description. On Baldurs Gate 3, I noticed that several players had attempted to swap DLSS for FSR 2 before me. I discovered how to do it after a few more searches. I was really impressed. FPS is playable with high settings… I’m looking forward to formal FSR 2 support.

How to install FSR2

1. Download CyberFSR – Click to [discordapp.com]

   (you can either download the latest DLSS2FSR version or compile it yourself. All links are listed at the end of the guide).

2. Extract the Archive into the Baldurs Gate 3 bin folder (for me it’s D:\Programms\Steam\steamapps\common\Baldurs Gate 3\bin) so that the nvngx.dll is in the same folder as the main EXE file.
3. Very important: Run the included “EnableSignatureOverride.reg” file. (Accept the admin prompt which pops up).
4. Launch the Vulkan version of the game. Select the “DLSS setting” in the graphics options.
5. FSR 2 is an exciting game.

NOTE 1: Since the tests were performed in a location that did not have many effects, they are not really objective. FYI DX11 at the first location gave about 20 FPS on Ultra Settings!

 

NOTE 2: FPS is the lowest value when I was intensely rotating my camera. The highest FPS values are when the camera is looking in one direction.

Minimal settings, 1080p, DX11, no FSR | 50-80 FPS, ~12 ms

Ultra settings, 1080p, DX11, no FSR | 35-45 FPS, ~22 ms

Minimal settings, 1080p, Vulkan, no FSR | 55-70 FPS, ~15 ms

Ultra settings, 1080p, Vulkan, no FSR | 40-45 FPS, ~23 ms

Minimal settings, 1080p, Vulkan, FSR 2 (Performance) | 70-100 FPS, ~9 ms

Ultra settings, 1080p, Vulkan, FSR 2 (Performance) | 59-70 FPS, ~14 ms

Important notes

• Larian Studios plans on adding official FSR 2 Support in September.
• I AM NOT responsible for any damages that may be caused by changing your operating system or game.

  Do it on your own risk.

  P.S. I am pretty confident that you will not break anything. This note is just in case.

• FSR2 is only supported by DirectX 12 and Vulkan. You must run it in Vulkan Mode to access FSR 2.
• FSR2 can only be disabled once it is enabled. If you want to disable FSR 2, change the graphics preset. If you want to disable it completely you need to run DisableSignatureOverride.reg and delete dll and ini files you’ve installed.
• The game can crash sometimes (e.g. 10 seconds when loading a location, the Nautiloid crashes.

  Teleports & crashesAnother example would be when I talked with

  Shadowheart in the second location.

  If you want to avoid the areas where the game crashes, you will need to disable FSR2 completely. (Once you’ve got a save in that area, you can enable FSR2 if you like.

• You could try Intel XeSS. However, I don’t know which one is better or more stable since I haven’t tested it. You can access the latest CyberXeSS via the DLSS2FSR server’s #resources channel.
