Astria Ascending Cla*s Build Guide.

Aims at optimizing the most use out of the cla*ses available for Alek in Astria Ascending.

Notice

– You should join the Official Astria Ascending Discord for any questions you might have about the game: https://discord.gg/G4sM4MnjBM – [discord.gg]

– You can complete the game with any type of cla*s and combination, even if post-game content might present a greater challenge.

  • Use any build you like and any build you make up for yourself. Enjoyment is the first thing you should always aim for.
  • You don’t have to follow this guide to the letter, these guides are for optimizing, and so you may forfeit or ignore certain aspects of the builds for the sake of comfort.
  • Some of these builds are aimed at long-term investment. A little knowledge or general JRPG knowledge might be required for some encounters. Should you have issues with certain fights in some capacity, switch your tactics around.
  • With regards to the point above, most of these builds are aimed at the inevitability of post-game. I have done it with odd and sub-optimal cla*s builds just for fun as well and knowledge goes a long way.

Basic Information

Main/Sub/Support Jobs explained

The way the game explains how jobs work can be confusing, even more so because the Journal has information about everything relating to the game, misinforms the players on about the cla*ses. It should explain how it all works right away to make an informed decision and not regret it later. Only a small amount of information is wrong regarding this and is explained below.

– There is no way to ‘respec’ your character’s cla*ses in any way. Make a save point before changing and have that as your backup if you intend to do multiple playthroughs.

  • It might be misleading to read the journal as it states otherwise.

Ophiuchus Abilities

In the menu, navigate to Journal > Jobs to see every cla*s available and their abilities. You will notice that some Abilities are under the tag of Ophiuchus. In the cla*s trees, there are Silver-star nodes, and all of these are related to Ophiuchus. You are only granted 1 choice for one single character. This comes in extremely late into the game.

  • These abilities will not be considered for optimization, as you should have enough knowledge of the game at this point to know what you want to use should you ever want to use one of them.

Base Job

Astria Ascending - Best Class for Alek - Basic Character Information - Base Job - 1FF1C85

【Soldier】

Alek sits at an odd spot during your journey. On the one hand, he deals the most physical damage out of the entire cast, while on the other hand, lots of enemies are resistant to physical attacks throughout most of the game. Alek is very strong and won’t really leave the top spot in terms of power, but you might feel the detrimental effects of physically resistant enemies/bosses early despite this. [Multi Hit] (3 to 5 hits on random enemies) will help Alek along until he grabs stronger abilities on your journey, spending points on Sharp (20% STR while at max HP) early isn’t what I would do, but use it if you wish.

Don’t leave Alek out entirely because of resistant enemies, alternatives exist if you are willing to support him which will cannonball his damage to the stratosphere:

  • The other, lesser, and the more expensive alternative to emulate this is to have a Harnesser (Ulan/Eko) use Omni Cast on a Hunter (Kaydin/Arpajo) (All single target Abilities become Multitarget). Assuming the Harnesser even has a high enough AGI to go before the Hunter for a first-round wipeout.

All of Alek’s cla*ses are viable in their own way, but it matters the most once you’ve entered Post-Game content where the differences will be displayed quite clearly. The reason for this is due to Wushu Support/Pa*sive Ability, 8th Gate (Increases STR and MAG by 30% but decreases the user’s HP by 20% each turn (only while the user’s HP is above 25%)). Once the other cla*s choices gain access to this, the gap widens quite a bit.

The builds and their roles

This should help you figure out what each build is supposed to be doing a majority of the time, and most of you are probably familiar with concepts like these.

  • Tank – Provides damage mitigation for your team and takes on the big hits that would otherwise kill someone else.
  • Support – Provides buffs for the party or debuffs upon the enemy.
  • Healer – Restores the party more efficiently than everyone else, keeps your heroes up to speed.
  • Damage Dealer – Destroys the enemy quickly, but needs the other roles on the team just as much as they need the Damage Dealer.
  • Utility – Niche abilities or support/pa*sive abilities that apply to specific situations and combinations, can overlap with certain roles.

For easier In-Game navigation on each color of the stars

This can help if you need to spot what you specifically want to look for.

Assa*sin

Astria Ascending - Best Class for Alek - Basic Character Information - Assassin - 15B4072

【Damage Dealer/Support】

Assa*sin is a very balanced and comfortable cla*s to have around. You gain access to all debuff attacks but one, [Demote Hit], and even if they are all on a 75% trigger-chance, it is more than enough. Enemies weak to Dark tend to be quite sturdy, and access to all of the good Dark abilities can help supplement this and is a reliable alternative to damage. Early on, the cla*s can be used to apply debuffs upon the enemy, or wipe out groups of them with [Omni Umbrus].

When you reach Post-Game, it will exclusively attack with [Triple Slash] (Warrior) as enemies will have no weakness or random weaknesses. Unless you are okay with supplying the proper debuff and maintaining it yourself; [Unwall Claws], can be used too.

Pros :

  • Highest End-Game scaling.
  • Strongest Dark elemental attacker.
  • Dark spells can be used as a main attack before Post-Game.
  • Can support with increased Debuff duration, and can Spread them.

Cons :

  • Lowest MP growth.
  • 25% chance to not debuff.

【Build】

Main Job – Assa*sin
Sub Job – Warrior
Support Job – Wushu

Stat investment:

  • MP – 600~800 — for comfortable MP management, then rest into HP.
  • STR or MAG — STR, or if investing in MAG use Dark spells, then at Post-Game switch all of it to STR.
  • ACC or AGI — ACC, or AGI if you plan on using MAG, change to ACC Post-Game.

Important Abilities to pick up:

  • Omni Umbror / Umbrus – Deals a moderate/high amount of dark-elemental damage to all targets.
  • Umbrorima – Deals a huge amount of dark-elemental damage to a single target.
  • Unwall/Unshell Claws – Deals physical damage to a single target with a 75% chance to inflict Unwall/Unshell for 3 turns. (-DEF/MDEF)
  • Mute Claws – (with Spread) Deals physical damage to a single target with a 75% chance to inflict Mute(Silence) for 3 turns.
  • Triple Slash – (Warrior) Deals 3 physical hits on a single target.
  • Omni Slash – (Warrior) Deals physical damage to all targets.
  • Dispel Slash – (Warrior) Deals physical damage to a single target and has a chance to remove any positive status effect on the target.

Support Abilities in order of importance:

  • 8th Gate – (Wushu) Increases STR and MAG by 30% but decreases the user’s HP by 20% each turn (only while the user’s HP is above 25%).
  • Fructify – Increases damage dealt by 20% if the target is afflicted by a negative status effect.
  • Overpa*s – (Wushu, use in Post-Game) 20% chance to absorb damage even if the user is weak against the element, or can nullify or resist it.

Free Support Ability choices.

  • MP Saver – (Soldier) Reduces MP costs by 30%.
  • Back Up – (Soldier) 10% chance to act again at the end of the current turn.
  • Meditation – (Wushu) Increases MAG stat by 20%.
  • Spread – When inflicting a status effect on a single target, it will be inflicted on all targets.
  • Affliction – Increases the duration of all negative status effects inflicted on enemies by 1 turn. (Doom will be decreased by 1 turn.)
  • Benefactor – (Wushu, based on MAG) 40% chance to heal an ally automatically at the beginning of the global turn.

Alek’s most balanced choice, but his strongest End-Game choice once you grab ahold of [Triple Slash] and Wushu. Flexibility in his playstyle is allowed if you want to have fun and use him in different ways until you reach Post-Game, otherwise, play him as you would with [Multi Hit] while supporting him with the right cla*ses and combinations. Both 8th Gate, Fructify and the high STR weapons available turns this cla*s to his strongest alternative. His damage will never be low, it will without a doubt be the highest damage available in your party. [Mute Claws] with Spread can shut down entire groups of enemies from using abilities, period.

Hunters and Shamans are your best friends but don’t forget to bring a Harnesser with you. (And if you for some reason don’t want a Harnesser in your party, do pick up Omni Courage (STR increased by 20%))

Do not ever forget to remove Demote (Turns off Support Abilities) from yourself or your party if anyone is afflicted by it.

  • Picking Warrior as your Support Job nets you support abilities of dubious values on the whole, and you will lose out on some strong tools from Wushu overall to really help you push further.

Support Abilities of note

8th Gate might seem intimidating to keep in check, but in general, you will be sitting below 100% HP most of the time and most likely below 50% health anyway. Assuming you have a Tank on your team, the Tank should be taking most of the damage with Guard that Alek would have received otherwise and you can always heal him back up as well.

Overpa*s might seem confusing to read, but essentially it works on all types of damage you take. You don’t even have to be weak to it, you will outright absorb any hit done regardless of what type it is and comes in clutch and helps sustain your 8th Gate. It CAN cause situations where your Tank wouldn’t be using Guard, but good use of abilities will help this.

Back Up isn’t bad at all despite the low percentage it has. Most of the time it feels like it comes online more than you would think and at moments you would least expect it to.

MP Saver can help you cut down the cost of your Triple Slash (and Dark abilities), and reduce your downtime between every fight for a more comfortable experience.

Meditation is the obvious choice should you wish to go the MAG route to start.

Benefactor is quite a helpful one to have around with MAG, until it loses value once you switch over to STR.

Wushu

Astria Ascending - Best Class for Alek - Basic Character Information - Wushu - FC4895A

【Damage Dealer/Utility】

Wushu at a glance is not a straightforward cla*s (That is why the Warrior exists). Its weapon selection has a perfectly balanced split between STR and MAG, a lot of abilities have percentage-based attributes to them, and some with supportive additions. [Erior Hit] splits its attributes between STR and MAG in the same way Kress’ Blade abilities work, and so working with two attributes can be a bit difficult. What the cla*s excels at is shutting down Hunts/Minibosses and allowing you to fight many of them earlier than might have been intended. [Demote Hit] shuts down their support abilities, while [Drain] immediately sucks up a good chunk of their health bar, and [Mind Break] removes a lot of their attributes.

Reaching Post-Game, you will most likely be using [Triple Slash] (Warrior) for the most part as it scales better than [Assault], while probably experimenting with your abilities to see what works and what doesn’t most of the time.

Pros :

  • Strongest Early-Game.
  • Strongest Support/Pa*sive Abilities.
  • Good skill tree design allows for early stat upgrades while picking up important abilities.
  • Great for Hunts/Minibosses, some abilities shut them down completely.

Cons :

  • Odd mix of percentage-based abilities.
  • Lower End-Game/STR weapon scaling.
  • Demote Hit is currently bugged and only seems to shut down specific abilities.

  • MP – 600~800 — for comfortable MP management, then rest into HP.

  • Assault – Strong physical damage to a single target and 2 random targets. (Until Triple Slash)
  • Drain – Absorbs 20% of the target’s HP. (works on bosses)
  • Mind Break – Deals physical damage to a single target with a 30% chance to negate what they resist, nullify, and absorb for the rest of the battle.
  • Demote Hit – Deals physical damage to a single target with a 75% chance to inflict Demote for 3 turns. (Turns off support abilities, but seems to be bugged and shuts down specific abilities)
  • Dispel Slash – (Warrior) Deals physical damage to a single target and has a chance to remove any positive status effect on the target.
  • Triple Slash – (Warrior) Deals 3 physical hits on a single target.
  • Omni Slash – (Warrior) Deals physical damage to all targets.

Build Comments

Alek’s strongest early-game option, but starts to drift off once the other alternatives gain access to Wushu’s Support Abilities, and weapon differences start to become obvious. If rushing against higher-leveled enemies is your speed, this is most definitely the cla*s to pick. Wushu itself allows for experimentation if this is also something you like to do, as its balanced STR/MAG weapons will let you try things out with both Benefactor/Erior Hit, even if I don’t recommend this. [Mind Break] can eliminate some factors in a fight. Fructify will help its damage along the way, as to not fall behind everyone due to Wushu’s weapons not having a wide gap in one stat or the other. [Demote Hit] seems to be bugged as it only shuts down specific abilities, but works wonders when it does work.

  • Picking Warrior as your Support Job gives you Counter, which is helpful in its own way but you will rarely end up being hit by a Physical attack with your Tank helping you. Dangerous isn’t bad nor is it terrible, crits are strong but it won’t be enough consistent value vs the alternative, and you lose out on [Triple Slash].

8th Gate might seem intimidating to keep in check, but in general, you will be sitting below 100% HP most of the time and most likely below 50% health anyway. MP Saver can help you cut down the cost of your abilities in general, and reduce your downtime between every fight for a more comfortable experience.

Benefactor + Meditation should be used together if you want to maximize Benefactor, as you will have quite a decent amount of MAG due to 8th Gate and to make yourself squeeze out a little bit more value.

Warrior

Astria Ascending - Best Class for Alek - Basic Character Information - Warrior - 9A8EAF1

【Damage Dealer】

Warrior is the game’s premier Physical Damage Dealer, and the cla*s itself comes with a small handful of useful abilities for the party. There should be little need for an introduction to [Triple Slash] and [Omni Slash], they are just overall powerful, useful abilities, and will carry you from start to finish. The straightforward nature of the Warrior should be emphasized, as you can supply many of the abilities through other party members more efficiently; All in all the Warrior has less to take care of in terms of flexibility but has the option to do minor things should you wish for it.

Pros :

  • Straightforward playstyle.
  • Allows for ma*sive STR boost early, due to straightforward skill tree.
  • Sword Dance (Cosmo Break) can help in certain encounters.
  • Option to go MAG with Umbror abilities should you want it, with MAG-leaning swords.

Cons :

  • Straightforward playstyle.
  • Needs support from others to help with Physical resistant enemies before Post-Game.

Immediately pick up [Omni Slash] and do not pick up Dangerous as it is quite expensive. Work your way down south beginning through Accurate > Stun Hit > Support Slot > HP Spend, and now you have access to 4 out of 5 stat upgrades. If you get all of the STR upgrades, Omni Slash should allow you to clear groups of enemies not immune to Physical regardless if they are resistant at times, and [Multi Hit] remains a good ability to use against bosses until you are able to get [Triple Slash]. Since you have free reign on all the stat upgrades at such a close distance, you can balance yourself out in the areas you feel needs an upgrade.

Hunters and Shamans are your best friends but don’t forget to bring a Harnesser with you. (And if you for some reason don’t want a Harnesser in your party, do use Omni Courage (STR increased by 20%))

Do not ever forget to remove Demote (Turns off Support Abilities) from yourself or your party if anyone is afflicted by it.

  • Picking Assa*sin as your Support Job nets you Fructify, but a flat damage increase is not stronger than a +Stat increase such as STR in terms of damage. Even if you were to use Spread and Affliction you would find that it has very little, if any use, on the Warrior.

Support Abilities of note

8th Gate might seem intimidating to keep in check, but in general, you will be sitting below 100% HP most of the time and most likely below 50% health anyway. MP Saver can help you cut down the cost of your abilities in general, and reduce your downtime between every fight for a more comfortable experience.

Mantra can be good to use if you do not really know what the enemy might throw at you, so not being weak at odd intervals has its value.
