Assetto Corsa – Guide for Controller Setup

Setup

This section shows you my current configuration. I normally keep these settings for every car, but you can tweak and adjust the settings, depending on what cars you drive. Your setup is always a compromise and will for example work great on slower cars but maybe too twitchy on faster ones. I suggest tweaking the speed sensitivity before touching anything else.

Controller Grip

One thing that I found essential in making smooth and controlled steering inputs is changing your grip! Use your index finger to create greater resistance to your joystick inputs. This may be uncomfortable at first but you will get used to it. This makes a huge difference in the accuracy and smoothness of my inputs.

How All Of This Ties Together+WR for Controller

Here you can see how all of this translates into a lap at the Nürburgring. I am by no means a great driver, but you can see that it can achieve decent lap times and win the occasional online race with this setup/technique.

To make one thing clear: driving with a controller will not be as fast and clean as with a wheel and you will not be able to compete with a good driver that is using a proper sim setup(way harder to be consistently fast and to save tires in a race). However, you can certainly learn how to drive and to understand the dynamics of the car when racing.

I recommend everyone that is a beginner to try out and learn with this track/car combination and settings. The stock setup is great on this track and forces you to learn how to control the car without relying on assists. Start slow and prioritize smoothness of inputs above anything else!
