Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla – How to Kill Kjotve

As you’ve probably figured out by now, the first few hours of Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla is devoted to Eivor getting revenge on Kjotve the Cruel for killing his father. During the A Cruel Destiny quest, this moment finally comes, and you’ll go one on one with Kjotve himself. If you’re not careful, this fight can be a bit tough, so we’ve written a guide on how to kill Kjotve.

 

Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla – How to Kill Kjotve

There are two parts to the fight with Kjotve the Cruel, both of which will be fairly simple once you figure out the patterns. To learn how to kill Kjotve, you’ll pretty much need to dodge his attacks then land 2-3 hits on him over and over again until you deplete his health bar. Watch out, though, because some of his attacks can deal a lot of damage.

At the very beginning of the fight, whenever you take your first bit of damage, it’ll basically knock you unconscious and take you to a cutscene with Odin. Don’t fret though, the rest of his attacks won’t deal with this kind of damage. Additionally, you’ll want to make sure that you have your best armor equipped during the fight, as you’ve gotten quite a few upgrades during the first few missions that you may not have equipped.

To equip better armor, pause the game and go into your inventory. From there, you’ll be able to select your best armor and weapons for Eivor. Now that you’re suited for battle use the dodge maneuver to avoid Kjotve’s attacks and then rush him to land a few quick hits. I wouldn’t go for the heavy hits while you’re trying to kill Kjotve, as they take too long. Additionally, be sure to note that you cannot parry attacks indicated in red, only yellow.

When you get Kjotve the Cruel to half health, he will pick you up and sling you into a pit for the second half of the battle. It’s more of the same during this portion of the fight, but he will have a new move where he picks up a dead body and slings it around at you, along with a Sparta-style kick attack. Just watch out for these when you see them coming, as they can deal a lot of damage — but they’re easy to dodge. If your health bar goes down too far, there are plenty of berries around the battle area that you can eat to get a quick boost.

With these tips on how to kill Kjotve, it shouldn’t take you too long. Additionally, if you happen to die, you won’t have to start the fight over, and the health bar will be close to the same spot that it was when you died! When you deal the final blow, you’ll cue another cutscene with Odin and will then be able to continue the A Cruel Destiny quest.
