UAV = Unmanned Autonomous Vehicle

UGV – Unmanned Ground Vehicle

Remotely operated vehicles without a human operator are referred to as “unmanned autonomous vehicles” (UAVs). They can be used in a variety of situations where having a human operator might be challenging, risky, or unfeasible. Each one has an internal computer that can decide for itself how to move to another location, identify enemies and allies, and other things.

There are three basic categories of UAV/UGV.

  • Camera with zoom/NV/thermal is small, quiet and unarmed

  • Small, quiet, unarmed camera with zoom/NV/thermal

  • A 6X6 inch wheel drive that can carry a weapon mounted and a camera with zoom/NV/thermal.

Required Equipment for Operation

To operate a UAV, the following requirements must be met:

  • Create a ‘terminal’ in your GPS Slot

  • The terminal must match the faction (NATO/CSAT) of the UAV

  • A UAV is available from your faction

  • Laser beans are used to target.

  • You should have at least one pylon (except for the Darter who has no pylons).

Here are some loadout options :

Falchion-22 – Short-ranged, air-to-air BLUFOR/INDFOR rocket (not reliable).

ASRAAM – Multi-faction, short-range air-to-air missile

Scalpel – Multi-faction air to-ground, anti tank guided missile. Other than its default infrared guide, it can also use manual or laser guidance modes.

Shrieker HE – BLUFOR/INDFOR air-to ground rocket for short range (soft-skinned vehicles).

Shrieker AP – BLUFOR/INDFOR small-range air-to ground rocket (Armor Piercing).

DAR – Multi-faction air-to–ground rocket with short range.

DAGR – A multi-purpose, low-range air-toground guided rocket for all factions. It can be guided by either laser or manual.

GBU-12 – BLUFOR/INDFOR general-purpose bomb. Laser guidance can be added to the target.

Mk82 – Free-falling gravity Bomb

CBU 85 – BLUFOR/INDFOR a cluster bomb. Laser guidance can be added to the target.

BL778 – BLUFOR/INDFOR BLUFOR/INDFOR bomb cluster. It can be laser-guided to a target

Macer II – Air to-ground BLUFOR/INDFOR antitank ballistic missile

CBU 85 – BLUFOR/INDFOR a cluster bomb. Laser guidance can be added to the target.

AGM88C HARM BLUFOR antiradiation ballistic missile. It has lock-on capability (LOAL).

GBU SDB – BLUFOR gliding bomb. Can lock onto laser spots. Tracks and uses infrared guidance as an alternative method of guidance.

Conclusion

There are 3 main UAV/UGV sizes.

  • Small

  • Medium

  • large (UCAV).

Small UAVs don’t come equipped with weapons, but they do have lasers that can help with target/terminal guidance.

UGVs have the ability to perform R&S as well as supply/logistical functions

Large fixed-winged/rotary planes can perform CAS (Close Air Support); target/terminal guidance

All UAV/UGVs are equipped with night vision and thermal cameras. They can zoom in on and pan their camera.
