This is a guide for both Impostors and Crewmates that are looking for a tutorial. I also have an “extra game” for people in a Discord group (or, god forbid, Zoom).

Setting yourself up and joining a game.

I wrote this once, and my power tripped. Now I’m re-writing this fml.

Hey there, fellow spaceman, what’s that? You’re new to this space station?? Well, then I guess I have to help you around until you get your space legs.

So before we begin, you should be on the main screen of the game.

Go ahead (if you’re on a computer), click the gear, and change it to the mouse and keyboard. This will make your game way easier for you to multitask with moving and objectives.

Now that you got the M&K setup let’s hop in a game. You’ll need a username, and if you are playing with a group of friends (the best way to have fun), you will need a room code. And why are there so many Q’s in the codes???

Now that you’re in a game

Now that you got yourself in the shuttle and are awaiting the game to start. Take a look at the left side of your screen. You should see some information that tells you the settings.

This information is essential to understand

  1. Map – the map you will be playing on
  2. Impostors – how many you need to worry about
  3. Confirm Eject – displays if the player was an impostor or not on the eject
  4. Emergency Settings – how many emergencies each player has and cooldown time
  5. Discussion and Voting Time – how long you get to discuss and vote off a player
  6. Player Speed – movement speed
  7. Visual Tasks – tasks display an effect or not.
  8. Task amount – the amount of work each player has in a game

How the Map works

Now you know what they are, let’s actually talk about most of them in detail.

Among Us - How to not to become an unfortunate spaceman now with bonus party game

Welcome to Skeld. This map is your new home for a while. It’s the easiest for new players to learn and fun to play when mastered. How I like to think of the map is a Tik Tak Toe grid. This may sound weird, and you ask me, “You dumb, there are 14 rooms last time I checked; Tik Tak Toe is a 3×3 grid”. Your not wrong, but you break each sector of the map into a 3×3 grid; it makes it easier for new players. In one of the games played, we had 3 new players, and every time a body was reported, they didn’t know where they were. So if you look at the diagram below, you will see what I mean by dividing it up.

Red Blue Yellow
Upper Engine Medbay / Cafeteria Weapons
Reactor / Security Admins O2 / Navigation
Lower Engine Electrical / Storage Communication / Shields

With this table, you can get an idea of what I mean by this. So you get lost or don’t know the map too well, you now understand Skelds locations. “Body was found in coms? Well, I was in..” *looks at grid* “top right of the map weapons!”. It’s just a basic idea that can help make it a bit easier as a new player, not really much more, but it helps with navigation.

Impostor & Crewmates

In an average game of, let’s say, 10 players, the teams will be 8 players of Crewmates.

And 2 of these guys

So the basic idea is for the Impostors to try and kill all the Crewmates. On the other hand, Crewmates have to complete all of the tasks assigned to them or figure out who the Impostors are before it’s too late. Sounds pretty easy, right? Well, that’s because it is; an average game is about 10-15 minutes (that’s if you are playing in a group over discord, etc.).

Crewmates will have 1 to 2 buttons on the screen at the bottom right. Those buttons (Use & Report) are pretty self-explanatory. You press the “use” button to do actions and tasks, while the report button is for reporting a body or a kill when you see it. You want to complete each task you are given and keep an eye out because there is a target on your back!

Imposters have a few tricks available, they also have buttons, but a few are different. They have Sabotage, Kill, Vent, and Report. “Why do they have a report if they are trying to kill everyone,” you ask? An actual strategy for this game is killing another player and self-reporting yourself to blame someone else. Lying is your best friend as an Impostor as long as you can get away with it. The Impostor can hide in vents. Vents allow the Impostor to either hide or quickly move around the map. When close enough to a vent, the Sabotage button will be replaced with the vent button. However, hiding in the vent stops your kill cooldown and sabotage cooldown until you exit the vent.

The better your alibi checks out, the easier it is for an Impostor. So follow people around but don’t kill them, so they think you are not the killer, but when the numbers dwindle a bit, don’t be afraid to sacrifice your scapegoat. Using your brain will net you a lot more wins than just killing people without scouting rooms out.

Sabotaging is a key element that will slow the game down just a Lil’ bit.

Sabotage type Can Win
O2 yes
Reactor Meltdown yes
Communications no
Lights no
Doors no

When an Impostor sabotages, some of them are fatal, and some are not. The ones you need to worry about are gonna be O2 and Reactor Meltdown. Communications and lights are not needed to win, but you can’t see your task when Communications are off. Lights will make your visual range small enough where you can only see about a foot around you. Doors block pathways and lock people out of rooms.

After you have been killed off or voted out the ship, you have a ghost that flies around. While your dead, you still need to complete your tasks if you want your team to win. It is vice versa for Impostors; even when they get jettisoned into space, they can still help their other teammates by sabotaging and closing doors. So make sure you complete your task even if you die!

Emergency Meetings, Discussion, and Voting Confirm Eject

I’ll go ahead and cover all three of these in one topic.

Uh oh! It looks like blue reported that green died in Medbay, and he says that you are the killer! But you have an ace up your sleeve. You and yellow were in Shields together, so you have an alibi. After blue tries to defend himself, it’s unanimous he is getting voted off your ship. But you don’t have Confirm Eject on, so no one knows for sure that it’s him.

  1. Emergency! – Each player will have 1 emergency vote each (normally). If you think a person suspicious or even watched them vent, you can go to the Cafeteria and hit that button. This is where the timers come in; whenever the killer sabotages or gets voted off, there is a cooldown on each player’s timer. This timer should Always be less than the Impostors kill cooldown timer. This makes games fair, so the Impostor cant goes around cutting heads off before you can even wipe the sweat off your forehead.
  2. There’s a monster among us but who? – Discussion Time and Voting, the timers themselves can be swapped, but having a long discussion time makes it so players don’t auto vote a player and can explain themselves before the group decides their fate. Personally, 90 seconds (30 discussions and 60 votings) is pretty easy, but you can change it or flop the numbers around.Among Us - How to not to become an unfortunate spaceman now with bonus party game
  3. Get off my ship! – Confirm eject means that if you or another player gets voted off the island, it will display if that person was the Impostor or not. So if you have it off, you may not know until it’s too late.

Tasks what are they?

Among Us - How to not to become an unfortunate spaceman now with bonus party game - Tasks what are they?

Space is a harsh place, even without a monster hunting you down. But if you want to keep flying and get home safe, you’ll have to get your rust bucket of a ship home. Each player is assigned several tasks (check the lobby for number) that they must complete. There are 3 groups of them.

  • Common – Tasks that are normal, not too fast or too slow
  • Long – Tasks that take a while to perform. Be aware of your surroundings; impostors might be watching.
  • Short – Tasks that take a second or 2 to complete

Task Room Length
Swipe Card Admin Common
Fix Wiring Admin, Cafeteria, Electrical, Navigation, Security, Storage Common
Inspect Sample Medbay Long
Submit Scan Medbay Long
Start Reactor Reactor Long
Clear Asteroids Weapons Long
Empty Chute O2 Long

Empty Garbage Cafeteria, Storage Long
Upload Data Cafeteria, Coms, Electrical, Navigation, weapons Long, Short
Divert Power Admin, Coms, Lower and Upper Engine, Navigation, O2, Reactor, Security Long, Short
Calibrate Distributor Electrical Short
Clean O2 Filter O2 Short
Align Engine Output Upper & Lower Engine Short
Prime Shields Shields Short
Stabilize Steering Navigation Short
Unlock Manifolds Reactor Short
Chart Course Navigations Short

here is the among-us.fandom.com – https://among-us.fandom.com/wiki/Tasks#The%20Skeld for most of them. (pictures would not upload on here; otherwise, I would have done that.) Most of them are pretty easy to understand; Swipe card you pull out a card and swipe, While some of the more advanced ones are Start Reactor, Simon says. Most of the tasks are like Mario party games. Just click around. You will get the hang of it.

Party game mode??

Your still here? Really? Ok, well, I guess I can tell you about the drinking game we played. Every time you die, you take a shot, you lose the round without dying? Take a shot. If your Impostor and they jettison your butt into the empty void? Knock one back and keep them coming. We played for 3 hours and got Crunked.
