Among Us – Coming Up With a Character

Introduction

Whenever you play Among Us, you play as an avatar you created. No duh. But sometimes, that avatar can feel like a decorative blob on a screen. So, I mixed two of my favorite things- Character making and Among Us.

Naming Your Crewmate

A good name can make a good character. You can name your crewmate whatever you want! Take it seriously, or if you want, make a plain silly name. However, if you want an original name, I’d recommend steering away from names like “told you I” or “Fools, I,” as almost every match has that one player named like that.

Designing Your Crewmate

When it comes to design in Among Us, you really can’t go wrong. Using not only hats and colors but also clothes can make your character just a little more unique. An example is one of my characters, PumknSpice. She is orange with the pumpkin hat and has the lab coat clothes on—her design matches her name, which I personally think is a nice touch.

Giving Your Crewmate a Gender

This is a pretty easy step. Just choose what gender you want your crewmate to be. If you want, you can make a big joke out of it.

Giving Your Crewmate a Backstory

Now, for the fun part! When coming up with a backstory, here are some questions to answer:
1. How did your character get on the ship? What made them want to become an astronaut?
2. What is their role on the ship? Are they a nurse, or maybe a scientist who runs experiments on different planet specimens?
3. What is their personality? Are they paranoid? Or maybe they are completely oblivious to the fact an alien impostor wants to kill everyone?

Pets! (Optional)

Does your crewmate have a pet? You don’t have to get detailed about the pet, but here are a couple of things you can do:
1. Name the pet
2. Give the pet a gender
3. Explain what relationship the pet has with its owner

My Crewmate Characters

Here are some of my characters if you are looking for inspiration:

Pumpkin Spice (PumknSpice):
Appearance: Orange, has a pumpkin hat, wears a lab coat
Personality: Fairly cheerful, but can get extremely distressed when alone.
Role: Collects different plants, rocks, or minerals to inspect
Gender: F
Backstory: Has always wanted to be an astronaut since she was 5; she joined with her brother

DarkStalker (DarkStalkr):
Appearance: Black, has a witch hat
Personality: Quiet and mysterious, prefers the dark.
Role: Assistant that helps whoever needs help
Gender: M
Backstory: Nobody quite knows what goes on in his head, and for that, many people stay away from him. He decided to become an astronaut to get away from the negativity on Earth.
