For those who have monitors with refresh rates more than 60Hz, I’ve discovered a technique to eliminate the framerate cap. This game is not the same as previous Frictional games. It appears to work. Please keep in mind that this could have unforeseen consequences for physics. However, after 20 minutes of experimenting with these changes, I didn’t see any difference.

How to Unlock the FPS

Open the highlighted file on Windows computers by going to Documents > My Games > Amnesia the Bunker, Main. Steam name, numbers, and user_settings.cfg should be the case.

We need to edit two lines. Line 7 is the first line to edit (at least in my cfg). Change Vsync from “true” to “false”, and RefreshRate as desired.

Line 9 is the next line to be changed in my cfg. GameplayUpdateRate should be set to the same value as RefreshRate (144). If not already set, AllowSlowdowns and LimitFPS can also be set to “false”. Save the file and then open the game.

You can also change your FOV by using the line below.

Here is a screenshot of the FPS counter ingame to demonstrate how it works. In my experience, enabling VSYNC recaps the FPS. So leave it disabled.

This also seems to remove the framerate cap, unlike SOMA and Rebirth where such changes affected only menu transitions and particles. After playing for about 20 minutes, I can tell that the framerate has improved. It is now smoother and more like what you would expect to see from a game with 120+ FPS as opposed to the artificial limit of previous titles.
