A Story Beside – All Achievements and Walkthrough 1 - steamlists.com

This guide will help you to obtain all achievements in the game.

Introduction

The game offers a lot of different endings based on your choice in each chapter. Technically, you can get all achievements in 1 sitting, but I advise you to do your first playthrough blind to enjoy the story to its fullest. You can get the remaining achievements from chapter select or backing up your save, although you might have to deal with the slow walking speed and hours of watching non-skippable cutscenes. If you want to backup your save, it is located at:

<your game folder>\www\save

To access the game folder, simply right click the game’s name from Steam client, choose Properties…, click on the Local Files tab, and then click Browse…

Tips: search every nook and cranny, interact with everything (especially people and notes), and pick up all blinking items in every chapter. All items are used for something. Talk to people and/or animals for it.

Prepare Isla for her perilous journey.

Chapter 1: I’m not sure if it matters, but make sure to make all decisions in the first chapter.

As for me, I did:

– You gave the dragonberry to Imelda. (you’ll learn the pie recipe)

– You befriended a sunlight oryx. (for the daybreak wool)

– You returned Byrne’s necklace in person. (I think any choice is fine as long as you return the necklace though)

– You told Molly to plant an herb garden.

I don’t think the rest of the choice matters. If you blame Kelsi, you can make up with her by learning how to whistle the chicks from one of the notes in the houses. Then, just whistle the chickens in the village and bring them to Kelsi. You’ll be able to return the necklace to Bryne this way.

Chapter 2: give Isla all items that you can get to her and forgive her.

As for me, I gave all items that I could from talking to all villagers and:

– Dragonberry pie

– Daybreak wool

– Mountain herb

– Sapphire necklace

Chapter 3: there should be a notice at the beginning of the chapter that says that she comes back and never felt the same. Talk to her in the woods to get the achievement.

Give a home to the stray cat.

Chapter 2: give the fish to the cat in the woods

Chapter 3: enter the woods and attempt to return to the village. Adopt the cat.

Help reopen the apothecary shop.

Chapter 3: preserve the apothecary shop, join the elf (Claire) for drinks at the lighthouse and offer her to work there

Chapter 4: talk to her in the apothecary shop

A Story Beside - All Achievements and Walkthrough - - Optional Achievements - 84831F5The Oryx Legacy

Preserve the precious Pyreside oryx.

Chapter 1: give the shiny stone to Isaac (optional, but I think you’ll get less options in chapter 3 if you don’t do it)

Chapter 3: choose either of these choices:

– Sell the apothecary

– Marry Tomas

– Make Isaac sell the crown from chapter 1

Personally, I chose the third option. Not fulfilling the first and second option will automatically chose the third option.

Chapter 4: keep the oryx

Chapter 6: talk to Noah in the pasture (approachable from the west side)

A Story Beside - All Achievements and Walkthrough - - Optional Achievements - 8BC426FMornings On The Lake

Go fishing with Graham for another day.

Chapter 3: get married with Graham

Chapter 6: take on Graham’s offer for fishing by the lakeshore

A Story Beside - All Achievements and Walkthrough - - Optional Achievements - 99CD65FBardic Inspiration

Inspire Hazel to follow her dreams.

Chapter 4: read the message in Hazel’s room, talk to her in the woods and mention about the letter. Tell her to follow her dreams

You’ll get the achievement in Chapter 6 when Hazel play the harp in the story. You’re on the right track if you heard that she becomes a minstrel. Just keep on playing until the chapter ends to get the achievement.

A Story Beside - All Achievements and Walkthrough - - Optional Achievements - B79E331Lifelong Friends

Stay close with Kelsi across the decades.

Chapter 4: at your farewell, choose stay calm, stay calm, stay calm, you can stay here, and I love you. Not sure if the last choice matters tbh.

Chapter 6: Kelsi should arrive in the village along with the other villagers at this point. If she’s not here when you’re having the bonfire party, you missed the achievement

A Story Beside - All Achievements and Walkthrough - - Optional Achievements - A3A276ARain May Fall

Lay Brianna to rest in Pyreside.

To be honest, I don’t know what makes Brianna didn’t return to the village. She always returns in my playthrough.

Chapter 6: the condition that shows that you are on track is if Brianna is coming to the village along with other villagers

Chapter 7: interact with the grave next to the blacksmith house

A Story Beside - All Achievements and Walkthrough - - Optional Achievements - 4CAB2ABWind May Blow

Lay Isaac to rest in Pyreside.

Chapter 4: do not accept Donovan’s gold

Chapter 6: the condition that shows that you are on track is if Isaac is coming to the village along with other villagers

Chapter 7: interact with the grave next to the blacksmith house

Effective Strategy

I know I can’t stop you if you want to get everything in your first playthrough, so here’s all my choices. Note that some choices might not affect the story and/or achievements and there might be more than one way to get an achievement. I also copied the descriptions from the Optional Achievements section above.

Tips: search every nook and cranny, interact with everything (especially people and notes), and pick up all blinking items in every chapter. All items are used for something. Talk to people and/or animals for it.

This section is not a walkthrough. It will only state the choices that you need to make.

Chapter 1

– Give the dragonberry to Imelda. (you’ll learn the pie recipe)

– Befriend a sunlight oryx. (for the daybreak wool)

– Return Byrne’s necklace.

– Tell Molly to plant an herb garden.

– Give the shiny stone to Isaac

I don’t think the rest of the choice matters. If you blame Kelsi, you can make up with her by learning how to whistle the chicks from one of the notes in the houses. Then, just whistle the chickens in the village and bring them to Kelsi. You’ll be able to return the necklace to Bryne this way.

Chapter 3

– There should be a notice at the beginning of the chapter that says that Isla comes back and never felt the same. Talk to her in the woods to get Always Sisters achievement.

– Enter the woods and attempt to return to the village to find the stray cat. Adopt her for Hide The Tuna achievement.

– Preserve the apothecary shop, join the elf (Claire) for drinks at the lighthouse and offer her to work there

– Make Isaac sell the crown from chapter 1. Preserving the apothecary and not marrying Tomas will automatically chose the this option.

– Marry Graham

Chapter 4

– Talk to Claire in the apothecary shop for Found A Place achievement.

– Keep the oryx.

– Read the message in Hazel’s room, talk to her in the woods and mention about the letter. Tell her to follow her dreams.

Chapter 6

Check if Kelsi, Brianna, and Isaac return to the village. Hazel should also be a minstrel for the Bardic Inspiration achievement (you’ll get it when the chapter nearly ends). You should be able to get the rest of the achievements that way.

I won’t give a screenshot of my choices for chapter 5-7 choices since you need to make your choices yourself. I dont think anything matters at this point.

Chapter 7

Interact with the blacksmith twin’s graveyard, located west from the blacksmith house, to get your remaining achievements.

What Choices Matters?

This is an incomplete set of choices that affect other things. I might revisit this later on if I decide to do another playthrough. Any help is welcome. The ones marked with question mark is an unconfirmed guess.

Chapter 1

Heroes and Slimes

-> Chapter 6: your decision will affect what you will do when you play with Kelsi’s children in the future (?)

Dragonberry

-> Chapter 2: you will be able to bake the pie for Isla

Oryx

-> Chapter 2: the type of the wool that you’ll give to Isla depend on the oryx that you choose

Bryne’s necklace

-> Chapter 2: returning the necklace will allow you to give it to Isla later. Not sure if giving it in the doorstep matters

Blame Kelsi or Graham

-> <still unsure>

Shiny stone

-> Chapter 3: giving the stone to Isaac will make it into one of the alternatives for raising money for the windmill. Not sure if it’ll be the same if you give it to Brianna.

Molly’s garden

-> Chapter 2: the type of the plant that you’ll give to Isla depend on the plant that you choose

Sat with friends or family

-> <still unsure>

Chapter 2

Save or kill the squirrel

-> <still unsure>

Give adventurer items

-> Chapter 3: the amount of items (or maybe quality as well) that you give will affect whether Isla returns to the village (?)

Tell Graham you or Kelsi liked him

-> Chapter 3: you’ll start “dating” with Graham if you tell him you like him. Maybe you will be able to hook Graham with Kelsi otherwise?

Feed the stray cat

-> Chapter 3: the cat will come back and you can adopt it later if you feed it

Baby Hazel

-> Chapter 6: it will affect the song that she sings if she becomes a minstrel

Forgive Isla or not

-> Not sure if it matters. She’ll return to the village even if you don’t forgive her.

Chapter 3

Flirt or ignore Claire

-> Marriage candidate (?)

Hazel’s story

-> Chapter 6: it will affect the song that she sings if she becomes a minstrel

Apothecary shop

-> Chapter 4: Claire will take over the shop if you offer her. Not sure what will happen if you don’t, but in chapter 7 Lyric said that it will be just an empty house.

Fishing with Graham

-> Chapter 4: if you accept Graham’s confession on the boat, he’ll stay with you in this chapter and you’ll get married in chapter 5. I think rejecting his offer means rejecting his proposal and he might leave the town.

Stray cat

-> Chapter 4: there will be an interactable dialogue related to the cat if you adopt it.

-> Chapter 5: you’ll be able to see its grave if you adopt it.

Graham’s beard

I think this will only affect Graham’s appearance later on.

Claire’s drinks

-> Chapter 4: Having drinks with Claire will trigger the dialogue for the apothecary shop. Maybe you can confess here too.

Tomas’ proposal

-> Chapter 4: accepting his proposal should automatically preserve the windmill. (?)

Chapter 4

Male/Female dog

It doesn’t matter story-wise.

Peaks and valleys

-> <still unsure, but it probably doesn’t affect anything>

Donovan’s gold

-> Chapter 5: the gold will be used by Lyric for supplies if you take the gold.

-> Chapter 6: Isaac will return only if you let the twins keep the gold.

Fishing with Graham

You’ll be able to land a mountain trout if you have Mussel in your inventory and fish with Graham. Mussel can be obtained on the way to the lakeshore.

Keep or leave oryx

-> Chapter 5: the oryx will stay in the barn (?)

-> Chapter 6: the village will still take care of the oryx if you keep them, and they will be left in the wild otherwise (?)

Hazel

-> Chapter 6: she will become a minstrel if you tell her to follow her dreams. Not sure what will happen otherwise.

Dinner

Not sure if anything matters except for some dialogues. The villagers like the mountain trout.

Fight with Kelsi

-> Chapter 6: refusing to fight will Kelsi will make her either stay in touch with you or return to the village (depends on the dialogues). Not sure what happens otherwise.

Chapter 5

Not sure which item matters for saving the adventurer. If you didn’t find anything, your partner will die.

Chapter 6

Kettle corn or baked apples

Graham hate kettle corn and love baked apples. Not sure with other marriage candidate. This will also affect the text in one of the chapters (forgot which)

Kelsi’s story

This doesn’t matter to anything except the dialogue.

Capital city’s partner

This only affect a few dialogues before you leave the city and when you interact with Hazel in the cabin.

The rest of the choices should depend on your choices in previous chapters.

– If Graham doesn’t return, you will fish alone. (?) You won’t be able to fish if Graham dies.

– If you didn’t keep the oryx, you can only share dreamroot with the wild oryx. (?)

– If Isla doesn’t return, you play the piano alone. (?)

– If Isaac returns, you’ll walk to the cliff with either Isaac or Brianna. Maybe the second one that you talk from the twins will walk to the bridge with you.

– If Hazel doesn’t become a minstrel, you’ll only speak to her in the cabin. (?)

Wrap-Up

I’ll complete this if I decide to do another playthrough. This lists all endings that are different based on your choices.

If you marry with Graham, Kelsi will marry Sabin, a man from the town. She’ll have 2 daughters.

If Kelsi doesn’t return the village, her boutique will be occupied by another family.

If Claire runs the apothecary, it will stay as it is. She’ll eventually married with another girl.

If Isaac doesn’t come back, Isaac will die in the town and Brianna will die in the village shortly after. It’s said that she must have missed him. Nolan, their appretince, will take over the shop.

If Isaac comes back, the shop in the town will be taken care by Nolan, which is only possible if they have the spare money. Both will die in the village, separated within days. Nolan and his appretince will take over the shop in the village after they died.

If Hazel becomes a minstrel, she will eventually stay in the inn, in the Nana’s room. She’ll take over the inn after Lyric passes away.

If Isla returns, she won’t get married. Her heart stays with the owner of the sword that is left in her room. She’ll be more energetic than Lyric at the end though.

My To-do list

Get Married with Tomas

– check if Kelsi married with Graham (check if hooking them up in chapter 3 is needed for them to marry)

– check if Tomas returns in chapter 6

– check if you can fishing with Graham if he comes back

– check what happened if you don’t collect supplies in town in chapter 5

– check what happened with the apothecary if you sell it

Get Married with Claire

– figure out whether you just need to make a choice in chapter 3 or you need to do something in earlier chapters (ex: not being a boyfriend with Graham, since Lyric will strongly said she’s interested in male when talking to Claire)

– check what happened with the apothecary if you sell it (check if Claire will still come back in chapter 4)

Leave the oryx out in the wild in chapter 4

Do not fix the windmill in chapter 3 (check if the oryx will extinct)

Check if you get a letter in chapter 6 if you get in a fight with Kelsi in chapter 4
